My inquiry is an issue with the Slot Winner achievement, just thought I'd throw it out there real fast! It's not the same issue as stated above, it's a little different, I got the achievement when I picked up the 1-up in 1-1 rather than earning it from the slot. Thanks for your time. :)

When will people stop adding useless achievements to sets that are already complete?

Who's to judge what qualifies as a useless achievement or a complete set? Beating the game with all 4 characters as contributors is something I've done since I was a kid and is a good achievement because it's all about balancing the 4 characters' abilities to best adapt for each stage with limits on how many times you can use each one.

I'm getting tired of saying this, but just because a set of achievements done by someone doesn't include certain achievements/challenges doesn't mean that no other achievement should be added to the set. IMO, this is a very self-centered argument, as it's only being viewed as an inconvenience rather than the quality of achievements in a set and completeness of an achievement set and the intentions of this site in general. People are complaining about having to play the game again without thinking about the enjoyment others who have never attempted the SMB2 set yet but will in the future will get.

I'm not putting down the original SMB2 set. I think it has some nice achievements, but I also think it has some that are very easy to get and worth more points than they should be.

I actually thought about a bunch of things that could be done in this game that achievements don't yet exist for.

In a community-driven project like this one, it's everyone's right to judge what makes a good or bad achievement. The fact that YOU have done so since you were a kid and find it interesting or fun doesn't mean other people will, THAT is actually self-centered.

This particular achievement forces us to play the game in a way that is not actually any more difficult since we've already had to play through the entire game with each character. It's inherently redundant, hence my comment.

No that is not self centered because people are not forced to play a game again but have a choice of doing the achievement or not whereas a person complaining that no other achievements should be made for any game already having 400 points just because they already did it is making an argument that is based on self-inconvenience. Guess what, there are plenty of achievements I hate that I don't think are fun that are based on random luck that someone gets lucky enough to pull it off because it depends on pixel-perfect precision that no human can consistently pull off (Penniless Plumber is a great example). But I understand that this isn't my site and people are not only free to make achievements but encouraged to do so and they're also free not to do achievements they don't like. And just because an idea for an achievement was overlooked/not considered when the original set was made shouldn't & doesn't mean it should remain left out. I think that auxiliary sets of achievements for extreme challenges should be made, but the Dream Team achievement is in no way one of those and until something like that is implemented, I don't expect things like Penniless Plumber to be taken out of the core set.

Also, it's not redundant because the other achievements force you to play the entire game as a single character, whereas this one requires it to be a mix of all 4 characters, leaving it up to the player to decide which character they want to use for which stage. The achievement I made requires playing the game in a way I bet most haven't played it before. Until now, there were no multiple Contributor-based achievements for SMB2. Having all 4 characters as Contributors complements the 4 Mario/Luigi/Toad/Princess Master achievements. I bet if it was in the original set, there would've been no complaints.

A lot of people bitched about those Mega Man 1 achievements (Minimum Man, etc) that were added but they made us play the game in different ways. And I can honestly say that I went from a good player of that game who was able to beat it without dying to a great player who can do beyond that as a result, even though it was frustrating until I finally got them all.

Also, if we truly like these games that we play for achievements like SMB2, etc., then seeing new achievements for ones we already mastered should be something that is embraced because replaying these games is in general an enjoyable experience. If people are playing games they don't enjoy just for the points, then I don't think they have a right to complain when they're forcing themselves to play games they don't enjoy & they're losing aspect of the fun this is supposed to be. I'm not saying this is the case with you...instead I'm trying to show a different point of view.

I hope I'm making sense & got my point across. It is very frustrating for people who take the time to learn how to make achievements, which I didn't know how to do until recently & still only know the basics of, when our contributions are looked down upon as worthless or an inconvenience. This (along with people who cheat) is what makes people say the hell with the site and leave, which only deprives us of future achievements for games that don't have any as well as those that already do.

Anyway I think before making any changes to an already complete set, you should at least post a question on the forums and see if most people are okay with it.

@CtrlAltDestroy I made achievements for beating the 1-2 & 4-2 Birdos with Starman. To get them, you must beat the Birdos of those stages with the star & pick up the crystal while you're still invincible. Note that you still flash a little after invincibility wears off, so if it doesn't trigger it means you weren't quick enough. If you fail to pick it up quick enough in 1-2, you can always go get another Starman without having to lose a life on purpose. In 4-2 I'm pretty sure you have 1 try once you go through the door that takes you to Birdo unless you can make it across the spikes before you die. Having both mushrooms in 4-2 would definitely allow you to cross the spikes without dying.

I saw a request a user had and added it. The problem is that when questions are brought up over here, there isn't much forum activity and things are ignored. Look how long ago CtrlAltDestroy posted his requests and the next post was almost 2 years later.

This site is supposed to be a work in progress and is request-driven. I thought all those ideas CtrlAltDestroy were good achievement ideas, but only made a fraction of them. I didn't see a rule that says achievements for SMB2 are no longer allowed to be made and no one user here can say when new achievements for this game are forbidden.

Like I said, nobody is forcing anyone to do achievements here. They are here for the fun of playing the game. If playing a game is considered a chore, then those with complaints are wasting their time here.

The very idea behind this site is to give users new reasons to play games we grew up with and the 3 achievements I did for this game do just that. If we're going by (in)convenience to the players, CtrlAltDestroy was a member of this site longer than me and longer than you and his/her request gets priority over ours. But I seriously doubt Scott had seniority regarding membership on this site in mind when it comes who gets to say when a game is off-limits to new achievements when he created the site.

I'll even go 1 step further. A lot of the achievements on this site are things many of us did long before there was a Retro Achievements. So if people are unhappy about playing a game for new achievements, they should've been just as unhappy getting the original ones in the core set, as I'm sure anyone who beat this game in the past did at least 80% of what those achievements require. Yet I don't see a single complaint in this forum or on the game page about doing the original achievements in the set. If someone had to replay the game for the 100th time in their life to get those achievements without complaining, then what is the problem doing 3 more achievements?

Think about this entire web community as a giant beta test. Things here are going to change, disappear, and be re-calculated every single day. Don't take things so seriously.
