RAGuides have been around for a while as a separate place where people can create guides to help other people out. Is there a long RPG with a lot of missable achievements, or a platformer with tough achievements that have a consistent strategy to make them easier? Or maybe you just want to make a general guide to specific parts of a game? Then RAGuides may be a place to check out! At this point in time, we already have more than 100 guides, with many people having been helped out by them. And assuredly, there will be many more to come from members across the community. And best of all... anyone can contribute!

How does it work?

RAGuides are, at the point of writing, separate from the site and hosted on the RetroAchievements Guides Wiki over on Github. These are written in markdown, which is a typing language not too dissimilar from what is used on Discord or Reddit--you may be more experienced with it than you think you are! Do be wary that a Github account is needed, and that 2FA (two-factor authentication) must be enabled, due to Github's security protection.

So anyone can contribute?

Absolutely! If you feel you have strategies to share for multiple achievements or the entire set, we welcome you to check out the Github wiki. While we of course discourage low effort or low quality guides, a lot of games could benefit from pointing people in the right direction when they are stuck. And you don't need to write a complete guide either, as writing only about missables or a specific sub-section of the achievement set is completely viable. Take a look around the wiki to see how other people have set up their guides and if you like what you see, give it a shot! And don't feel afraid to reach out either, as we are always happy to help you along your way.

I'm not a fan of Github, can I still make a guide?

Surely! The end product will still have to be published on the Github at the moment, but there are alternative methods to check out. A popular and very consistent one are online markdown editors, which are not only great at teaching you more about the language, but will also visualize everything that you type. One that I can personally recommend is StackEdit, which will keep it saved in your browser through cookies, and also allows you to make an account for extra security. Once you are satisfied with your guide, you can just copy it over to Github and voila!

So... how do I get started?

The front page of the RetroAchievements Guides Wiki has the full instructions on how to get started, as well as templates for making a simple guide (such as for missables-only guides) or for making a full, complete guide about every achievement in a set. Additionally, a generator has been made by WCopeland so that you won't have to convert all achievements on a page into markdown! Be wary that your own API key is needed to access this generator.

If you have any questions, please reach out to me through DM, either here on site or on Discord, and I'll be happy to help out!

Thank you for the work you do with these! I like following guides/walkthroughs, so I've been eyeing at playing some titles that have a guide already. I'd like to look into writing some guides myself, maybe one day!

Thank you for showing me StackEdit; I've half-written a guide for Final Fantasy [Subset - Solo Class] (NES/Famicom) Final Fantasy (NES/Famicom) Subset Solo Class and I stopped both due to getting distracted by the GameCube event and finding it annoying to do, but using StackEdit makes finishing it much more appealing to me.
