Probably going to hunt memory/make achievements while playing through this as I did with FF2J. As with that one, I'm also none too familiar with this game and would like suggestions for challenges if possible.

Still kinda on the edge of going with Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade (Game Boy Advance) Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade (Game Boy Advance) or this for my next project though. If I choose Fire Emblem, I'll get to this afterwards.

Well, it has a big job based focus, unlike FF2. Having achievements based upon these should present you with some interesting ideas.

At least you don't have to worry about what characters are in the party. I think 1 and 3 are the only games with the same characters from start to finish with no additions or removals.

Some Ideas:

* Eternal Wind: Obtain the Wind Crystal Jobs
* Flame's Flicker: Obtain the Fire Crystal Jobs
* Blessing of Water: Obtain the Water Crystal Jobs
* Earth's Embrace: Obtain the Earth Crystal Jobs
* Insight: Defeat Hyne without using Scholars
* FEOK: Equip one character with only Onion Knight Equipment
* The New Dark Warriors: Defeat Cloud of Darkness with a party of only Dark Knights
* Just Like How It Began: Complete the Game as a party consisting of Knight, Magus, Shaman, Karateka, or Sage. One character can only have a specific class.

Some more ideas.

Canonical: Make a party named Luneth, Arc, Refia and Ingus.

Might beats magic: make a Party with fighter classes without magic.

Magic Rules the world: make a magic only party.

True knight: Use a knight with sword and shield.

Shields are for losesr: Equip the entire party with dual weapons.

You look familiar: make Princess Sarah join your party

Hello Cid: make Cid join your party

Desh who?: make Desh join your party

Water Maiden: make Elia join your party

Crown prince: make Allus join your party

Dark Deciple of Noah: make Dorga join your party

Light Deciple of Noah: make Unne join your party

Air Rider: Take off in Cids Airship

You broke it!: Crash cids airship

This house is clean: Break the curse of Sasoon

Run! Run! Or you'll be well done!: Run from Bahamut

The little people!: Enter the town of Tozus

Eye of the beast: restore the eye of Nepto

Polymorph: Become a frog and enter the tower of Owen.

Two Horned Demon: Teach Gutsco a lesson why he should not steal-

well these are the ones i can think of right now, i actually like story achievements, especially with a witty pun or a joke attached to them.

Some of these mabey could be integrated too.

Some of you may have noticed that I put a few unofficial achievements up. So, obviously, I'm looking into this game.

Would it actually be worth it to make an achievement for fully equipping an Onion Kid? It's intended that you grind the equipment by hoping for a rare drop from dragons that only have a 1:64 chance of appearing, which wouldn't be too dissimilar from achievements several games already have. But in practice, many people supposedly exploit a glitch to spawn it in their inventory, which is gone over in further detail here:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/nes/563415-final-fantasy-iii/faqs/24510

I could see achievements for getting each individual piece of the suit dropped or stolen to be a more viable alternative once I figure out the values to make such a thing trigger.

This probably applies to every other achievement as well, since they can easily be cheesed if this is pulled off, unless every individual one up until the endgame is checking to make sure nobody has Onion gear equipped. That's 28 whole ResetIf conditions I'd have to put in every time... is it really worth it? I could alternately just have it check to make sure no Onion Kids are in the party, but then I have a pair of challenge achievements in mind that also involve Onion Kids.

Which translation are you planning on using? I heard there's 2 or 3 of them now, including a new 2016 one.

And yeah having it trigger when dropping rather than just having is a good idea. I remember putting in a Metroid endgame password just for fun and a ton a cheevs popped just for having the items.

I'm currently using the original 1999 translation.

Okay, I've got a full 400 point set up! I'm considering this game done for now unless someone reports a bug or comes up with a REALLY good idea. I'm not 100% sure if all my point values are appropriate either.

Actually, I'd appreciate if someone could wipe the unofficial set or tell me how to do it, since it somehow got bogged up with duplicate submissions.

I'm a big fan of the Chaos Rush translation which came out last year. I used it to complete this set.

From what I can gather from comments, these achievements are missable:
We Fear Change We Fear Change (25)
Illiterate Warriors Illiterate Warriors (10)
The Honest Approach The Honest Approach (10)
Divided They Fall Divided They Fall (25)
Oops, Forgot My Sunscreen Oops, Forgot My Sunscreen (10)
No Stone Unturned No Stone Unturned (50)
The Gauntlet The Gauntlet (25)

According to the comments on No Stone Unturned, the missables are in Hyne Castle, Lake Dohr, and Dorga's cave. Not sure if there are any other missables for the achievement, or if there are other missable achievements.

Edit: Nepto Temple's treasures are missable and only obtainable before exiting.

Double Edit: The dwarf cave underwater area's treasures are missable after reaching the dungeon end.

Triple Edit: While it doesn't explicitly list missables, Gamer Corner has an excellent guide with a page for every map and a list of each treasure on that map: https://guides.gamercorner.net/ffiii/
