Just saw your comment today (20 oct 2024 - GMT) regarding your efforts on "Metroid (NES) - Subset Bonus" and I came here only to thank you for your efforts for turning a Subset like that a reality! \o/
In contrary to some people might say, creating a Subset is never an easy job... I am not a fan of Metroid series and neither a Metroid player good enough to give a try on that Subset, though. However, I dont think it should be a decisive factor of avoid coming here and dropping by this message.
@Alexdatadestroyer Thanks. Honestly, the subset took months of hardwork to make, and it received no fanfare or attention of any kind after release. Because of that, it felt like I had wasted all that time for nothing, and quickly retired from developing anything else because of it. It hurt a lot to know that I had wasted so much time. This comment really helped. I greatly appreciate it. Especially from a fellow high level Sonic player.
@AuroraX Dont mention it! I just play the way I have to, I swear! ๐
- Regarding Subsets, they tend to have low quantity of players than Base Sets due to its difficult and for being something extra which dont interfers on Base Set progress, thus, not need to tackle that risky challenge. Average Completion is metric that plays a major role in this. Since some players plans to Master a Set when going to it, they may be afraid of not having enough skills to Master a Subset when tackling that challenge - letting it to remain opened and, thus, affecting the AC score.
- Now regarding your Development drop, I really think you should give another chance to Set Development when you have time and want to do so. There are a lot of Sets here that are empty... Also, I dont think Metroid NES - Subset Bonus was a time-waster either: That Subset presents a challenge. If a Player is skilled enough to tackle it, they will and will try to master it, thats it!
I agree, I was taking a look at the subset and I donโt believe that it was a good metric to see how many players would play your sets. Especially for your first set to release. The subset is so in depth and hardcore that itโs not going to interest the vast majority of players. Only a very select few of the most devoted Metroid players. I feel like it should have been expected to not have many players. But I will say itโs obvious that you put a lot of work into it and are very knowledgeable, so it is too bad for RA that we could not see some other work you could do! I think the site would have been greatly benefitted from some more of your work. You should consider trying it out again!
My first set was also a subset, though I didn't pour in anywhere near the effort that you did for yours.
It wasn't until I did a major revision many months later that it finally got any plays.
This situation should improve though with a gradual rollout of Core+Subset simulplay now taking place. This means a subset patch finally won't be needed.
Grats too on your Subset of the Month award btw. Your creativity should not stay unnoticed.
@clymax thank you. Your continued support has always been greatly appreciated. If I ever do have the free time again, Iโll maybeโฆ maybe consider returning to developing some sets. Weโll seeโฆ All well regards by everyone is greatly appreciated. Especially during a harsh rut in life atm.
It is brutally brutally difficult. I have over 4,000 hours of SM experience, and it still pushed me to my absolute limit. If you are gonna attempt it, you must be extremely EXTREMELY familiar with the controls and all the niche movement tech as well. It isn't for the faint of heart... Good luck to you if you ever do try for it however! o7
I play a lot of randomizers and Iโm definitely down for learning the game, itโs just I am very overwhelmed by the insane stuff the set asks for, that and Iโve been in discord calls with Mitsus while heโs been doing it and it sounds really stressful.
It is as stressful as it sounds, and then some. Unfortunately there is no sugar coating it or any words to ease things. It's unrelenting. I consider this the hardest set on the website that's actually humanly possible (*cough *cough pokemon mystery dungeon subset *cough). One word of easing that i can give... is just take your time with it. It's going to take time, and a bunch of practice for each cheevo. To take some of the stress off me, I took month long breaks at chipping away at it. You're going to fail, a lot... and that's okay. I will admit, I failed several times on a few challenges, that were very long and stressful, dying near the end, and loosing several hours of work.
Just take your time with it. Do not pressure yourself.
(Also, seen that Mitsus poked Nestroid, if he needs any help or training with that, I'd be down to help. That set is also very difficult.)
Late to say it but congratulations on mastering Super Metroid bonus subset. What makes you inspired to do that subset and why didn't you stream or record all of your attempts?
I recently within the past 2 years got extremely good at SM and all it's tricks, and thought I could probably tackle it. I put it as a New Years resolution for this year. I do not stream or record anything I do. Most people on the website don't. I'm no different. RA set attempts also get no attention anyway.
