The hardest achievement in this set is probably finishing the game with an S rank. Your rank is determined by your averages - if you maintain an average of 96-98 points up until the final level, you can finish with an S rank getting 0 points for damage but acing everything else. There are sub tanks in both of the forest stages - you can make full use of those and get the achievement.

For hard mode - your rank does not matter; you have zero incentive to maintain an A or S. Look for the cyber elves Grandie, Euppie, Fuppie, Mappie, Yeppie, Estan and Peatan and grind out around 2800 crystals. That'll max out your life and get you two sub tanks. The easiest place to grind crystals is the Crystal Caves. (And early on, the ice level - first area with the robot fish.) The difficulty is frontloaded - once you have access to the above cyber elves (and the first sub tank from the forest level) the game gets a lot easier.
