Please use a dedicated GB core such as Gambatte when playing the set.
MGNS8M 20 Feb 2025 01:58
Looks like the DX version is causing too many problems, and no one was reporting them, so for the time being I'm removing the DX version. Maybe later I'll research what can be done with the RAM flickering so much, but if that's unpredictable then not a lot can be done.
sandro4912 20 Feb 2025 04:11
Does it? I could do all cheevos on DX with no isuess.
MGNS8M 20 Feb 2025 16:35
Yes, it does. And that's debatable now, considering how many unlocked at random times when I tested it more last night. When I first tested it, I spot-checked things to make sure they worked, but didn't look at the RAM at-every-moment to see the many random-flickers that happened. It's very unstable.

I was also playing DX with absolutely no issues and because of removing it from the list all my save data is unusable...

Hopefully it can get re added soon..

Fun set! None of the achievements were overly difficult except for the last couple damageless bosses. Dedede and dark matter damageless should be available outside of the boss rush. Nice to allow us to use copy abilities though!
ZillaRex 12 Mar 2025 23:36
Mastery #60! I would've gotten this badge a long time ago were it not for the fact that the final boss's damageless achievement was tied to the boss rush version. I think most of my playtime ended up being trying to just get to them in the end...? I honestly can't remember. It's not even that it's all too hard, it's that getting there takes so much time per attempt that it's disheartening.

Now, maybe my ire towards the last few achievements is clouding my judgement, but I did not like this game nearly as much as I did Dream Land 1 or Adventure. The overall level design feels more unfair, playing through blind will result in a lot of cheap damage. While the variety mixing and matching Copy Abilities and Animal Friends brings is cool in concept, in reality it isn't nearly as interesting as it could be since Rick and Kine are basically worthless. Actually, Coo is just so strong that there's no reason to use the others, EXCEPT to solve a puzzle here or there.

Weird game. I'd probably have a better opinion if I never went for the Mastery. There is *that* one room though, which is pretty funny... If you know, you know.
NyaGoesNiko 14 Mar 2025 00:07
dude why do you NEED to do the hitless bosses in the boss rush, getting hit in the later bosses and then having to fight all the other fights just to get to the one your trying to do hitless is so needlessly annoying...
NyaGoesNiko 14 Mar 2025 12:02
Mastery #16

For the most part this was a chill set and game overall the Rainbow drops could be a little cryptic on what buddy + power you needed, often requiring stuff from other levels which did not help.
This set was close to being flawless but WHY can you not get the hitless cheevos in the story and only in Boss rush. That is such a horrible idea meaning if you get hit on the boss you are trying to get the hitless for you have to go back and fight every boss up to that point. Got hit on dark matter phase 2? Yikes hope you like fighting all 6 other bosses just to get another attempt.
This alone put a sour taste in my mouth from this set. What should really have taken at most a hour for those cheevos ended up being a 4 hour struggle.

I highly would recommend a revision to let a player earn those during the main game.
MGNS8M 16 Mar 2025 15:46
I saw that RAVBA got an update to prevent GBC-page-flipping(which sounds a LOT like what was causing the DX patch to fail in RAVBA, which is where the ticket came from), but unfortunately it didn't help and the same RAM-flashing happened, and triggered things prematurely. The more annoying thing is that I can't test it directly in RAVBA without fully linking the game, so sorry for the annoyances if it pops up now and then. But since this test failed too then I'll have to figure out something else if/when I try again later.

As for Boss Rush, the achievements were made specifically FOR Boss Rush, they aren't intended to be "damageless in any mode". The most I would consider moving would be the last two, but even then there is a much more demanding in-game achievement in Kirby 64 that requires ALL bosses damageless in the same session. Maybe they don't directly compare in difficulty, but you would still need to redo all of them if you messed up on the last one as well.
sandro4912 16 Mar 2025 15:57
If i would need to do these no damage cheevos again i would practice with save states in softcore the fights i really struggle on. Then it should not be that bad anymore to do all the rush.
NyaGoesNiko 16 Mar 2025 23:04
But like, WHY are they only intended boss rush, are the fights any different in boss rush?

The achievements are already separated for each boss so there isn't any "no hit all the bosses in a row" your still doing each one individually. It's just with the current way it's set up, it really does just feel like pointless tedium to have to refight a bunch of other bosses ive already proven mastery at to retry the actual boss challenging me. It doesn't add any challenge because those other bosses aren't hard to beat normally after you have already no hit them. It just seems like a timeout penalty everytime to keep me from trying the real challenge.

For example the Kirby's adventure set is set up similarly. You can only fight bosses once in that game but if you decide to go for the no hit during main game you totally can. Any bosses you didn't do can then be rechallenged later in boss rush, or you make a new file to refight them without the hassle of worrying about the boss rush scenario.
Renan007 16 Mar 2025 23:17
In almost all games in general, the No Damage achievements are separate, it doesn't need to be different in this one and there are games that even allow you to do this in-game and Boss Rush (like some Megaman X sets)

In the end it's just a waste of time and that's why I haven't tried to master this set until today even though I really like this game.
MGNS8M 17 Mar 2025 01:52
"Why did you make boss rush achievements?" ...because they're for Boss Rush. They're only No-Damage secondly to give more of a challenge. I went out of my way to make sure the player could attempt the next one even if they failed the previous one, but "there isn't any no hit all bosses in a row" sounds like I should have made it that way.

"Are the fights any different in boss rush?" Technically yes, you can't bring an animal-buddy with you, and any power-up you get must be from one boss or another. You can't just bring what you want. And especially if you want to attempt a farther-off boss, you'll need to go through the others to get back to it.

The whole "it's a waste of our time restarting Boss Rush for No Damage" is still fixated on the idea that these are No-Damage achievements first, when they're not.
NyaGoesNiko 17 Mar 2025 02:22
...they are no damage though.
The challenge and purpose in the set of those achievements is coming solely from the fact that it's no damage.

You already have a achievement for beating boss rush which requires the player beating each boss in the mode as well as progressive achievements for each boss in the main mode so what exactly is the individual boss rush achievements doing differently than those two examples if not being no damage achievements.

And I'm not saying it should be one go like the achievement in K64. That achievement is awful my point is you are not trying to make a challenge like that. You have already separated them from each other so these have no purpose being in rush.

The only reason you have left then for these being in rush is the restriction on abilities and buddy's which you could also just code restrictions on the no hit to fine tune it to the challenge you are trying to craft. Kirby's adventure asks the player to no hit each boss with no abilities for example or to no hit dedede with hammer.
MGNS8M 17 Mar 2025 02:58
Yes, the achievement for beating Boss Rush mode(regardless of damage taken) is also for Boss Rush mode. That shouldn't mean it's the only one. That shouldn't mean that "Boss Rush achievements for No-Damage" should only be No-Damage. "They have no purpose being in Boss Rush" isn't true, the reason it gets more difficult and are worth more points is BECAUSE they're being done in Boss Rush mode.

If they were made to be any mode, they wouldn't be worth that many points, and everyone who did them in Boss Rush will lose points when they're scaled back to what it would be worth if they could instantly retry.

Another issue is that the game auto-saves, so if you beat the boss after taking damage in the main game, you'll either need to replay the game to get back to that point, or you would need to go through Boss Rush anyway to get it, for less points. It makes more sense to just balance it so that everyone is on the same playing field.

"The only reason you--" No it isn't. The reason is because you have the risk of losing the further you go. That's what boss rush means. Getting really tired of you constantly trying to say 'it doesn't matter and you should change it' after you've already gotten it yourself anyway. Quit harassing me over it.
NyaGoesNiko 17 Mar 2025 05:53
I'm not harassing you. I'm having a discussion about constructive criticism about the set. If that's too much for you, I can drop it.
At the end of the day it's your set you call the shots.
Sorry if I bothered you.
sandro4912 17 Mar 2025 06:12
To be fair one boss rush does not take very long. I believe they are there to make it more challenging a bigger achievement of beating the bosses there without screwing up.

Esse set é bem estranho, o jogo é estranho, primeiro é o 100% que é um dos ou se não o mais chato da franquia, segundo é as conquistas no damage nos chefes... Do Boss rush??
