Seems like you shouldn't jump until you're at least at level 3 speed, then make sure to not go under 3 and jump to reach the emerald, once or twice.

Mastered. Finally a reason to come back to Heroes and not the ill-fated PS2 version. The set was straight-forward for 100% until I got to the challenges. Those need their own set. Not only do they go against what the game originally intended but are also tedious, repetitive and just awful. I'm surprised there is no "complete the game without pausing" or "beat Sea Gate without sneezing" achievement. I'd never want to do those challenges again as they trully make the game not enjoyable.

I recommend learning spots where it's safe to jump, i.e. making sure that you won't land on spike balls. Fortunately, the time requirement means that you won't have to learn the entire stage since you need to get the emerald well before the end. Also, when you do a boost jump, don't hold the jump button for too long. It's usually better to land and then do another boost jump than to spend excessive time in the air. The special stage achievements on the PS2 version that require a certain score *before* reaching the emerald were a nightmare. These weren't so bad in comparison, at least to me.

There's some difference in the game's logic from US and JAP versions? I'm asking cuz the difference in-game between versions is only the VO (you can change the text to other languages in the Options), and would be nice if the JAP version supported the same cheevos.

Mastered. The challenges are fun in theory, but I feel some of them would be a lot more fun without the arbitrary score requirements. Missing the mark twice in the Team Dark 9 Swap Achievement because I was 1800 points off is a low point in my life lmao. Good set though if you wanted to actually master Sonic Heroes without having to play the PS2 version.

I know damn well I won't be getting those special stage achievements. I played this game when it first came out and I guess after all this time I forgot how ass the controls are in the special stages. Hoo boy. Unless there's something I'm missing, I feel like just gently touching the control stick will send the character flying, and God help you if you end up on the ceiling because once you run up there the characters seem to LOVE staying up there. I have no idea how I managed to 100% this game as a kid...

It's things like this that make seeing people master the set especially in such a short amount of time amazing to me.

Instead of arbitrary seeing things as "I touch the stick and the character goes flying" arbitrarily, try to understand what are the circumstances that makes characters behave a certain way, because it's not random, it's about getting used to the jank, which I'd say it's an important skill to have to enjoy and master Sonic games, for example, switching from Speed to Fly makes you bounce up and lose all your speed, but not from Power to Fly; also, if you hold the boost for too long while you're stuck in the same place, the character might suddently move backwards and such. For this set it's important to know that using the Power character makes the emerald move slower and dash+jumping is effective to reach the emerald quicker is you use at the right angled surface. I had this video explaining for the PS2 set, which is way more difficult, but it might also be useful here.

Maybe the reason I said "Unless I'm missing something. I feel like X happens" is because I didn't understand and couldn't figure out why X was happening and I was asking for help? Granted, I probably should have outright said I needed help but I was frustrated since it kept happening and I could not for the life of me figure out what was going on, hence the poor wording.

I'll have a look at that video later and see if it'll help. I've also seen GunslingerNV's tip in the Sphere Collecting is My Specialty - VII comment section as well. Thank you for your help/patience.

I am on your side, that the special stages are unforgivingly bad for their controls. Using a save state to practice them helped me immensely. I found for the speedrun achievements, if you are power formation, dashing then jumping immediately after gives you an insane amount of speed, you just have to know when to do it.

I'll give this a try, and I will admit one problem with me is I tend to keep trying to get achievements on hardcore when I SHOULD be playing with save states to practice. Chalk it up to my impatience, I guess. Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a shot when I play again.

I never play softcore with save states, though it's allowed it doesn't seem earned that way.

You are allowed to save state, but not load, I recommend playing on Hardcore and when you reach a difficult part you save state in case you fail, then when it happens you switch to softcore to practice. That way you won't accidentally win first-try on softcore.

Help. The "Defeat Robot Carnival as Team Chaotix" achievement won't trigger for me :/ It's the only achievement I'm missing for beating the game. Already tried doing it from challenge mode and Story mode and it still won't pop up and I'm kinda tired of doing the chip mission. I'm wondering if I need to do story mode from the beginning from a clear save slot or if it's bugged
