Use Beatmania GB (Japan). It's entirely in english so don't worry about that. Don't leave free mode while you're on auto mode or you won't earn arcade achievements, make sure you back out in hidden or normal. Make sure you use "full" button config.

It's definitely very hard. I don't know how OSU compares, but for a very long time Beatmania games (most notably IIDX) were the platinum standard for hard-as-balls rhythm games.

Although playing IIDX long enough to even become mediocre at it makes the songs in the GB games seem more reasonable by comparison. I recommend re-mapping your keys to something more comfortable for you.

I don't get it, where exactly do I input the Konami code? I've tried everywhere I could think of, on the title screen, menu select, password, in a song, heck I even wrote UUDDLRLR in the password screen, nothing worked.

Welp, I was gonna complete Pop Island as my first mastery... And then I happened to master this set in half an hour. Welp, guess I might need to check out the other games then. This is a really weird part of Beatmania's history, but I gotta admit hearing all these songs in 8-bit is quite charming.
