let's be honest - all paired releases should be merged. there's no actual need to suffer through two games that are almost exactly the same just to get the same achievements in both. this just makes it all more tedious and painful.

"Suffer through"? This wording is as if someone is actively forcing you to play both releases in some way. If you want 1 set, play 1 set. Others want 2, so they play both. There really is no reason for argument here. Also, the achievements are rarely the exact same between releases, devs tend to bring something of their own to each set. I'm a big fan of another dev getting their chance to do something cool for these kinds of games, giving a new experience for players for an otherwise similar game. (Or even the same one, in the case of things like ports to other consoles)
