Yeah, not perfect. It does visually throw me off a bit but as long as I don't focus my eyes at the bottom of the highway, I will be at least doing better than at 0 ms video calibration. Wish the PS2 version of GH3 had audio calibration like the 7th gen console versions and with adjustments to negative to combat the emulator audio delay.

Also, I'm having issues adjusting the whammy's settings to my liking. When I set the deadzone to at least 1%, whammy bar is not working at all. I can set the sensitivity to under 95% to make sure the whammy bar doesn't "auto-press" even when I'm not using it. But the axis doesn't feel right. Going into the in-game whammy calibration, it's like most of the axis sensitivity is towards the center of the whammy bar with a lot of dead zones outside the mid range.

When I did play using DualShock 2 inputs, tapping into guitar mode (I may have to switch back in doing this), I map whammy press to Analog Up and whammy release/rest to Analog Down which makes whammying feel more sensitive correct.

Haha I also use that exact guitar too. The strum switch may be a little less durable but it works so much better imo. And if you decide to use DS2 inputs instead, it might be a better idea to just map the whammy press to analog up and that's it. If you set the release to down, it seems like you'll be whammy-ing too much, tried this on GH1 and just ended up removing the analog down mapping.

With new controller support and setting target latency to minimum (15ms) with a (calibrated) latency of 21ms set in the game, seems to work pretty good with my wii guitar + raphnet adapter. Nice to see this finally work :)

Still doesn't seem to work with WiiTarThing, unless I'm missing something. Might have to pick up one of those Raphnet adapter's one of these days.

back when I had this game in my old ps2 I found a way to unlock the coop carrer songs solo without using the "unlock all" cheat

it was a pain having to input the unlock code every time I started the game since the quick list would never save with the songs unlocked via cheat for some reason

took some time but all I had to do was complete the whole coop carrer with the "never fail" cheat enabled (got some cash out of that too :V)

Btw there are also cheaper adapters than raphnet available. I can recommend those from "Retrocultmods" on etsy, cheaper and software is open source, still being worked on and also adds many other use cases (one being that it also works with Rock Band 4 on PS3, PS4 and PS5)

Glad the new version of pcsx2 finally supports guitars, but man that input lag just makes it unplayable. I’ve tried a few tweaks found here in the comments but nothing that makes it playable, at least for me. Any song that requires consistent strumming just feels impossible, whereas on clone hero I have no problem.

Hopefully something changes to improve this, because I really want to emulate this game.

I got no issue with input delay, but audio delay is ~100ms with my setup. There are ways to alter the sound files of the game to add your audio delay as silence in front of the song. But this changes the games hash, making it not work with retroachievements anymore. No good solution found on my side yet. That said, other versions of gh3 got an audio delay setting with an update, so maybe waiting for a set of the wii version (as soon as dolphin is supported) might kinda solve that issue.

No, not even that will work. I have the Wii version, and I can assure you only the PS3 and 360 versions of this game have the audio delay setting in the calibration.

You’re right, that’s my bad, it’s audio delay not input lag. I just knew that the song wasn’t synced up with what I was doing, so I wrongfully assumed it was input lag.

Just replace “input lag” with “audio delay” in my original comment and I still stand by it.

I've gotten through all the expert achievements first, and I'm just going back for the other difficulty levels. The set's good, I'll just give my thoughts on how to deal with the audio latency.

I've got a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface with a pair of Sennheiser HD 599s for my audio setup, and for input I have a ol' faithful Guitar Hero 5 Wii controller wirelessly connecting to my onboard bluetooth using the WiitarThing software (which is just a fork of WiinUPro). PCSX2 now lets me map the WiitarThing virtual controller, but unfortunately the whammy and tilt sensors are inverted and there's no way to change that from within PCSX2, so I've recompiled WiitarThing with the whammy and tilt sensors reversed. I haven't gotten the tilt to really work at all, but before it was always triggering immediately and I'm used to smacking the Select button to activate star power.

For the audio, I can reduce the latency to my Scarlett 2i2 by setting the sample rate to 192kHz and the buffer size to 32 (play around with the highest sample rate and lowest buffer size you can without getting audio skipping for lowest latency). PCSX2 I've got the synchronisation on None, target latency on 3ms, and the output using Cubeb and latency ticked minimal. Still, I get measurably about 121ms of latency just for the audio, so I've got two solutions.

The gutsy solution is to play a YouTube video of each song on the side as you play. Time the video to when the highway comes up, and listen to that while watching your game. It's not really robust, and you'll probably restart the song a few times, but it can work a little bit.

The other solution is to use OBS, capture the screen, and set a video delay filter of about 121ms (your value may vary a little, record some footage and measure the latency yourself), and finally set the in-game latency to that same amount. It's more robust but the game's feedback is super reduced when the latency is set that high. Hope this helps a bit for now.
