Castlevania Dominus Collection put me in the mood to do the achievements
Vyadhis 3 Sep 2024 13:57
Yeah. The Dominus Collection achievements are pathetic. This set is great.
TommyDeal 3 Sep 2024 13:58
Yeah I saw them. Literally just beat the game, and beat with one alternate character for all 3 games. And no trophies for haunted castle or it's remake. They didn't even cover the other alternate characters in PoR either.
illdizzog 5 Sep 2024 07:35
How are the boss damage achievements not missable? Is it because you can get them in Boss Rush?
Shmelyoff 5 Sep 2024 13:21
The point is that you are misunderstanding the concept of missible achievement. A missable achievement is not an achievement that you can miss by simply not doing it, but an achievement that can be missed for no obvious reason. As an example: you can sell a quest item that will be impossible to get after the sale, and in the set there will be an achievement to get a reward X - which is given only for completing all quests. In this case, the achievement “Get reward X” is a missible.

And to defeat the boss without damage, you have an infinite number of attempts until you yourself consciously save progress after defeating him.
JRodslegend 5 Sep 2024 14:26
I see “missables” as, you have to replay the entire game to get it if you don’t consciously pay attention to it. If you play the entire game blindly ignoring achievements, get to the final boss and save, EVERYTHING that you can no longer go back and get should be labeled as “missable.”

Thats what the majority of us players expect, just to clear up confusion. But I know labelling them is dev discretion, and as long as achievements are in the order you can get them, I’ll never complain
TommyDeal 5 Sep 2024 14:30
I used to think that but I changed my mind. If you worry about missables you cannot go beat a game and expect to master it in the endgame without having looked at the list at all.

If there's a whole set of damageless achievements they're already entirely obviously missable. If it was only 1 or 2 I'd say mark them.
illdizzog 5 Sep 2024 20:26
My understanding of “missable” comes from years of playing Xbox achievements where a missable achievement is a ‘one chance per play through’ challenge. I just view these ‘beat boss X damageless’ achievements through that same lens.

I understand that this is RA and not Xbox but they still seem missable to me. Just my opinion.
FinalFrantasy 5 Sep 2024 22:01
Missable's definition seems different per the dev working on the set. Heck, marking achievements as missable isn't even required on RA.

I will say though if you're going for all the achievements, you'll probably at least give them a glance before you start, pretty easy to notice all the bosses here have a pattern with their bonus achievements. :')

so yeah unless your playing on a device with a touch screen, get the notouch patch. For whatever reason i could not seal Malphas with a mouse no matter how many times i tried. swapped to my android and did it first try.
gorocz 16 Nov 2024 22:08
I'm sorry, but the no-damage boss achievements should definitely be marked as missable.

The vast majority of sets mark such achievements as such and the only case where they are not marked is when the boss fights are repeatable, so they are not "obviously missable" as some suggest, because that's not consistent with how RetroAchievements usually work. And even if they were obviiously MISSABLE, they should be marked as MISSABLE (because, you know, they are). There's no negative to marking the achievements, so why not do it?

Not marking it makes the missable filter in the achievement sort of list pointless... Before I started the game, I opened the list of achievements, used the missable filter, saw only 2 achievements and just checked those, saw which points in the game those were, so I thought I don't need to worry about anything until those points...
azormx 17 Nov 2024 05:57
I can see the point of a "missable" being something that can be missed by external conditions, whereas for boss fights you can assume most of the time that they will be missable. Even though that has changed over time with many games featuring ways to rechallenge bosses.

I think it's probably for the best to mark both cases as missable. That would be a net positive for either side, while not really doing any harm to the set
tontogoldstein 18 Nov 2024 09:00
When I approach a new set, I typically will check the "only show missables" box to see what I have to worry about not being able to go back and get without replaying the game. For that reason, these boss achievements are definitely missable, as is anything you would have to restart the game if you happen to *miss* it on a playthrough.
firkinblin 23 Nov 2024 01:54
To add to the above debate, I'm also quite critical towards even things like "no damage" bosses being unmarked as missable. It's something that takes like five minutes of the dev's time that may save literally hours for hundreds of players who may be unaware of them, especially since so many people are going to use the missable filter to check before blindly jumping in. The missable tag inconveniences no one unless you count being intimidated by a large number of them (while having them unmarked is actually much more stressful for me than a large list).

Not saying this is game is an extreme case (the challenge icon was enough for me to understand what's up), but there are a few devs on here who are notorious for not using it at all . I understand it isn't a strict requirement, but I'm highly in favor of a more standardized system.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to sound ungrateful towards the work of the devs -- I understand that they have a lot on their plates and that the sets wouldn't exist without them volunteering to do all of this for the community, but at the same time, it comes off as a bit lazy and some of the bigger offenders will leave hundreds of angry comments outright unaddressed.

Aria of Sorrow better. But seriously this game was more fun since in Aria the achievements were way harder. I also enjoyed the Julius mode here way more. Overall good set.

If there's no way to challenge a boss after finishing the game they're definitely missable. Marking only 2 is worse than marking none...
