Let the titlescreen run for a minute to show a demonstration video on techniques. I've seen way too many people play without knowing the basic technique of blast turns to stop the seemingly randon sliding on stream.
Kazama168 22 Mar 2023 17:26
Thank you for the tip @Yaered ,I got the driving, having no problems with it even its tottally diferent from snes,i got used to it.But still, its very cheap.Same as snes.Escecially trying to get those wins on master with the slow ships, crystal and wind waker. They dont stop hiting u from behind aside of the mines, yellow and green cars ..Feels cheap way to make u lose, like it felt mastering snes., just an opinion. Is ok, is a good game and a good set :)
Yaered 22 Mar 2023 19:01
Yeah, Crystal ship I absolutely despise... even being way worse than my old worst ship to play with before completing this set... the silver thunder for me. Wind Walker was always one of my personal favorites only being beaten by stingray and jet vermillion.
Kazama168 25 Mar 2023 17:49
Maybe, absolute despise... but then...why is allways passing me when my speed is far higher, and i have not hit any wall or lost speed on all full 1st lap?? When u play on master, Rival ships speed doesnt make any sense, they just allways run faster then you,the stats are only for you, even the slower ship runs allways faster then yours when they are control by cpu..
alp 25 Mar 2023 18:37
@Kazama168, that is the point. You're not supposed to win by your ship's advantages in master but by your own superior skill that even better outfitted opponents cannot match. It does make sense.

You'll just have to make every shortcut possible, be that good at drifting, and when is the time and place, not let the opponent pass but you but instead use the shoulder buttons to keep putting yourself right in front of them. That and occasionally use mines as speed boosts and perfectly place your ship between some of the dirt strips and the wall (e.g., Bianca 1).
Kazama168 25 Mar 2023 21:57
Something that dont match what game told u on select screen cant never make sense to me.What you are suposed to do or whats the point has nothing to do with what i said before.Nvm sir,i dont wanna start a discusion.I respect your opinion, thanks for the tip also @alp
alp 25 Mar 2023 22:40
- Drifting can in fact, when used correctly, make you go faster than even a master opponent at the right moment, especially near the finish line.
- Due to the same kind of bug that in old Quake or Doom, going diagonally can make you faster than going straight. More relevant in world record runs though.
- The opponent _will_ catch up no matter the crazy shortcuts you take, like those in Queen 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4vft1_KalY unless they die, and I saw OmegaVideoGameGod (whom I've neglected a hullo) get lucky like that. I've occasionally just saved more than one boost for the last or second last lap, but not tested that extensively.

I'll admit that I like this game more than MK8DX, and is on par, but different from X and GX, because it's a pure grind. No items, blue shells, lightning, or side attacks, so forgive me for sounding touchy. However, I'm sure we aren't the only three to despise the JB Crystal. Its good grip is not worth much, only its long boost. At least the Sly Joker, that feels like it, decelerates slowly.

I'm not sure what better driving opponents rather than cheating ones in Master would be like. I can't speak to the original developers' timeline, or the cost of a bigger cartridge if required, or their per-frame compute budget on the GBA.
Kazama168 25 Mar 2023 23:33
No problem sir, i may sound salty sometimes too, because the game unfairness gets you to the nerves hehe.Sorry if felt disrespectfull or something.Yep they catch allways. And yep drift looks op,but pretty hard.Im not sure if i be able to finish this one
Yaered 26 Mar 2023 01:54
It's all good, these are simple criticisms that more experienced players may not even face/notice much anymore, I for one find these criticisms fair, especially for newcomers, as long as you give it a fair shot.
Kazama168 26 Mar 2023 10:26
Yep,im new to this one,not to the franchise, just never have given time to gba versions.Owner of extreme-g X and gx,and all wipeout, have plat on psn wipeout omega collection and ps3 one,Pacer also, definitivelly not new to the genere, but new to gba f-zero's
Kazama168 26 Mar 2023 11:21
i lied, not wipeout64,never played that too,but all psx,yep
Yaered 26 Mar 2023 16:14
Yeah, for RA sets, this was more tedius than gp-legend, but gp legend was far more difficult, especially with the test completion. Climax i have yet to fully get into, so can't fairly compare that to these two quite yet in terms of difficulty.
Kazama168 27 Mar 2023 15:20
Any tip for beating ghost for 20 seconds??? best i got was 1:47 with comet... idk how to do faster...
Kazama168 27 Mar 2023 15:51
Nvm,not gonna finish this one.I dont see a reason to grind the 20 seconds ghost thing and 19 place, because someone say its needed to be a master of the game.To me beating Master on all ships should b enough.Anyways... thanks all for the tips etc bla bla.see ya on other game maybe
Yaered 27 Mar 2023 17:07
yeah, the key is jet vermillion, but it takes a lot of time and effort to even get good with the ship. Championship course however is a great course for mastering the game itself. If you can at least drive the course without any major slowdowns, it should be a freebie for the 20 second mark.
alp 28 Mar 2023 01:54
@Kazama168, the Jet Vermillion basically turns on a dime on ice, drifts faster than straight, has a metric tonne of health, and will almost boost forever.

You will not beat the ghost with a lesser machine like the Hot Violet. Maybe Stingray, Fighting Comet, or Silver Thunder.

Your call if you want to move on to another game of course. :-)
alp 28 Mar 2023 02:28
I'll need to reload from a backup my old save game, before I overwrote the staff ghost with my own, but you can with the JV reasonably easily gain a few second lead on the first lap alone. Using the HV just makes it hard and a waste of time.

thanks for the tip @alp.Very apreciated
SpaceChloe 28 Sep 2023 01:18
Mastered! The game became way more fun once I got through the ordeal that were the slowest ships (looking at you JB Crystal). After those, the Jet Vermillon almost feels like a cheat code. Thank you for the set!
