Mastered! I came into this game thinking it would be mid, when really it was so, so much worse. Some levels are atrocious ("speedways"), and the good levels are...okay design at best. I ended up using level maps halfway through to save my sanity. Thanks for the set tho!

Mastery #126! This took me about 6.5 hours. With all the comments I expected the game to be bad, but I had a lot of fun playing this. The maps are 100% recommended to have open on the side, but with maps the game is quite fun. Can certainly recommend

Wow, I remember trying this game as a huge fan of Spyro I am, and oh god I hated it.

With Retroachievements I decided to take it on again to see if my opinion changed, and surprisingly I've managed to master it. The speedways are definitely the worst levels in this game because they are too tight timer-wise.

The levels themselves are very annoying to navigate and the perspective is hard to anticipate, as a result you very often fall into the void. Making you lose all the items you have to flame.
Those flaws are making this game a bit rough, but honestly I've enjoyed more the second half of the game, thanks to the maps you can find online (check Gamefaqs)

This game isn't bad after all, but the flaws can make this an unenjoyable experience... go figure it yourself if you want to try.

#M164 I was craving more Spyro so I checked this out, it was okay some levels were great others were felt a little off. Once you understand a level you will understand the whole game, it's pretty much rinse and repeat. I am hoping the other games will be better!

The overall game felt like playing Spryo and that made it worth it mastering!

30-31 achievements not compatible. How do I make the full set work? Any specific core I should be using with retroarch?

mGBA was the first one I tried actually. It's def not the file itself, cus I tried with both Europe and USA. The cores are reading 30 achievements as unsupported for me.

A nice novelty handheld game for its time. Otherwise, this is easily one of the worst Spyro games that follow the classic collectathon formula.

Sloppy level design, repetitive game loop, uninspired enemies and final boss, the fact that dying in a level forces you to backtrack for flammable objects and the treasure chest key again. Just a dull and tedious game.

Season of Flame is much better than this.

False. It's been ages since I played this myself, but it was all Hardcore for certain... even the Speedways. It's not like DS touchscreen stuff being impossible due to mouse movements not registering as swipes.

This game is a good retro Game Boy Advance time!

That being said there are plenty of leaps of faith that can cause some frustration (it's a MUST to hold "L" to move the camera around and take a look before jumping). Depth perception in an isometric GBA game also leads to many mis-jumps (try to use Spyro's shadow as a height indicator).

Sparx dragonfly shooter levels make a return from Year of the Dragon, much as remembered. Speedways also return, but the perspective is only behind Spyro looking straight ahead. These can be frustrating, again with the perspective causing confusion with how close enemies are to Spyro (I recommend using the D-Pad for flight levels, making precise input much easier, and spamming the shoot button at all times).

If you've never checked out a Spyro GBA or it's been a long while, I encourage you to give it a go! Just don't expect a classic PS1 Spyro experience and try to appreciate it for what it is/was...Spyro in the palm of your hands! 👍
