Thanks for the awesome set I just got the mastery so for anyone looking at the set thinking at least 5 playthroughs that seems a bit excessive know this, after your first playthrough the game is less than 3 hours each run and honestly closer to 2 even when collecting all the dog tags the real grind comes from the boss survival which is crazy hard even compared to the hardest difficulty. with all that said its such a fun set and well worth sinking your teeth into if you love metal gear solid extremely ott cutscenes aside if that's not your thing(I personally love them for all the goofiness).

This set is far better than this garbage game ever deserved. M1 tank is just random bullshit in boss survival, and that's the least of this game's problems. I commend anyone who's willing to put up with this bs, but I don't think I can.

You mean aside from the obvious that's been covered dozens of times? Okay. Inconsistent enemy AI (mainly bosses, i.e. Ninja is supposed to jump away after attacking, but sometimes he just keeps chaining attacks), borked hit detection/bad hitboxes will have you shoot right through your target (M1 tank's main problem), Snake's PPK hitbox is an actual joke. Walls are a lie as enemies will sometimes spot you right through them and even shoot you through some walls. Stun grenades work like in MGS2 so things like the tower climb are completely unbalanced. Audio queues mean absolutely nothing as the direction sounds come from is very imprecise. This is highlighted very well in the Hind fight. Bosses have a buttload of i-frames while you never have any i.e. if the M1 tank rolls you over, you're just dead. Damage is inconsistent too somehow. I'm sure I'm not the only one who got bumped by M1 tank and died instantly. Overall, TTS is barely functional and you're basically always fighting jank rather than actual mechanics and challenges.

I'm sure I can find more crap to talk about, but this comment is already over 1k characters so that should be enough to make a point.

Ah and while I'm at it, the Stinger LOVES to not-lock on or stay stuck on the wrong target. I've stopped counting how many times the Hind's "squares" were right in my sight, but instead of locking on I would get a direct, unlocked hit.

I gave up on using the SOCOM for the M1 tank in Boss Survival, as I also found it really frustrating. Instead, I just ran around the tank chucking grenades. This lets you keep your distance, keep on the move so you don’t get damaged, and doesn’t rquire careful aim. Plus, depending on how lucky you are with perfect throws, it doesn’t even take that mich longer. It also lets you save SOCOM ammo for looping the Ninja and healing by shooting Mario.

Using this strategy, I was very consistently able to get through the fight, and often was able to do it damageless.

I do agree about the Stinger, though - I have no idea what they did to it, because it feels really nice in MGS2.

I gave up using grenades on the M1 tank because their throwing arc feels completely random. Sometimes you don't charge your throw and Snake will chuck it across the field, sometimes you fully charge it and it just bounces on the tank. Also the gunner's range feels inconsistent, I kept getting randomly shot while staying in the "safe" range which is why I opted for the SOCOM+running around the tank so as to never be in front of the gunner or cannon. I had plenty of ammo to heal in the Ninja fight too because I'd loot the Ocelot fight before finishing it. I did end up getting no damage a few times on it, but it always goes to shit on Hind phase 2, in part because the stinger sometimes refuses to lock-on. If you have any advice for this one, I'll gladly take it

Boss Survival is at the very bottom, and it includes a link to a video of my successful attempt (which was a little scuffed on a few fights). If you haven't already, I might recommend trying Softcore mode first so you can practice each boss individually with save states.

Oh well okay, first time I see someone just complaining (might be true don't mean any offense there) about the gameplay and bugs (I didn't remember encountering such flaws back then but I believe you), I thought it was yet another guy with the same old "TTS garbage because cutscenes, because dialogues, because this and that"
You mentioned some scenes that are unbalanced, I reckon that for "expert" players it must be awful, but I guess for more conventional players it was fine (I love MG, but I'm not the one that do them X times in each difficulty).

So fair enough!

Yeah TTS is fine to play casually, dare I say fun even because breaking games in new ways is fun imo, and the original won't suddenly cease to exist so I can still have a laugh with the new cutscenes. But yeah things really fall apart when flawless play is required

To beat the game, you need to do all of the "Progression" achievements and only one of the "Win Condition" achievements. That is to say, you can beat it on any difficulty, and either ending. To master the game, you need to get every single achievement.

Boss Survival on Hard was a pain with the HIND fight, but I got it down after various retries haha. Definitely a fun set for sure, but challenging too.
