When exactly are we supposed to talk to the boss to get the good ending? Spoke to them immediately before the engineers fixed the door and still got the bad ending

You need to clean everything , ensuring nothing is missed, and then speak with the boss. You should choose the second option. Then it'd say something about a better future.
