Well, mastered after the change anyway. I honestly had a lot of fun with this but I am also super glad that the endurance challenges were moved to a subset. Kudos to the author for making this set and listening to feedback!

Do free run lap times save somehow? Can you get them to? Or is the idea that they don't count towards records (in-game) and leaderboards (retroachievements)?

yep i agree, i woulnd't have started mastering this in knowing that all the subset-archrivements were part of this main-set. The main-set is frustrrating enough for some races.

Mastered, nice set, it was lot of fun.. but, honestly one (10,000,000 NFS Points) achievement was not fun at all!

kinda pains me to realize you need to have hardcore mode on to master this game, i beaten already half of it, guess its time to redo most of it (thankfully not everything)

BIG TIP: start practicing the points glitch as soon as you start the game and try and pull it off as much as possible during the events, otherwise you’re going to finish all the achievements of this set and you’ll have to grind another 5 million with the glitch in order to master the game (me).

none of the races in this game are even remotely paced well. why is the average lap time 3 and half minutes.

Mastered #32! Fun and decently challenging arcade style racing game with a great soundtrack. My only complaint would be that the CPU rubberbands a bit too much imo which takes away a chunk of the satisfaction you get from driving well and gaining a lead. Had the harder challenge cheevos not been extracted to a subset then I would probably never have given this game a try. So thanks for that @Lilihierax!

Finished the game (never did it when I was young) and hated every minute of it. This game gets so repetitive half into the HP and World Champion challenges... there are races where you spent around 20-30 minutes racing around the map. CPU Racers have rubberband that gets even worse the faster your car becomes. Cops in this game are really really hard and only attack you, not your competition. I had some ragequit, gamepad throwing moments....

Thanks for building this set tho! Still was a pleasure somehow reliving my childhood dream game.

From what I "briefly" tested on a couple late-game tournament events, the AI doesn't seem as aggressive if you play at the intended 30 FPS: they still stick to you like glue, but rarely do they attempt to overtake you, and whenever they gained 1st place it wasn't that difficult to catch up as they slow down a lot on corners for some reason.

Cars also felt weightier even on the Extreme handling model, almost Most Wanted-like even, and it was much easier to recover from spinouts on cars like the Murcielago which tends to veer to the side randomly (although it seemed to do that a lot less often at 30 FPS).

Perhaps it was just a Mandela effect, but it's worth a try disabling the 60 FPS patch if you struggle with the AI as it seems to eliminate the issue of opponents randomly gaining massive speed boosts, which never happened when I played the PAL version on real hardware.

@Luken You would be correct about the AI being faster at 60fps which is why it's not officially supported. When I was testing different versions of the game while making the set I messed around with an Alpha build of the game and the fps wasn't capped at 30fps for gameplay and it was impossible to get in 1st place and on Extreme AI I was lapped before getting to 3rd place. The AI went into hyperdrive mode while staying on a perfect racing line it was a crazy thing to see 😅.

Mastered. Its a good one, especially since 8-lap challenges moved onto subset. 10m and misc endurance leftovers are still tedious, but its more about whole game being extremely repetitive and lacking content in general. Such a mixed bag years ago on release, still a mixed bag nowadays. Had a lot of fun by simply doing hotlaps, but man, career is just ubertedious, combining with worst cop mechanics in whole series with helicopter being such an uncounterable nuisance and inconsistent roadblock/spikes placement , and ofc INSANE rubberbanding which they transferred onto opponents as well as cops. Its just meh experience, and its game's fault not set's.

About 60fps patch: It definitely breaks AI, giving them insane speed boosts, but also making them crash out more often, Actual problem that it breaks physics, I had to turn it off mid-playthrough just because it makes some vehicles just wobbly and some completely udrivable. Murcielago is the brightest example.
Anyways, thanks for the set, onto sub now, suffering must continue :)

Mastered! I can still remember getting this game for Christmas in the early 2000's. Came in the weird blockbuster DVD case. Feels really good to unlock the Modena again :)

I initially thought that this game was underrated and overshadowed by nfs most wanted and underground 2. But when I replayed it, I realized that it's properly rated 8/10. The music is great, the cars are beautiful. But it could really use 2 or 3 more unique race map. Also the police is only aggressive with you. And they hardly catch your opponents if you are not near them. But I must admit. It felt boring to do the World Championship after going through the Hot Pursuit races. So maybe I really like the unfairness toward the player after all.
With that said, I really want to thank @Lilihierax for giving this game a set and for listening to the players complains and removing the ones everyone had problems with. And making extra work by creating a subset. It was a pleasure mastering this set. Thank you.

My 21st mastery, and had to be this game. I didn't think I'd make it, but after UG1, this drove me the hope to do it. First time I have beaten the game, too.

I'm new here in RetroAchievements, some while ago i did finished the game with the maximum points in game, but it was in a real PS2, now it's time to play in PCSX2 with "RA" On, let's see how far i can go with only the Manual Transmission :D
