This game is absolutely unforgiving and also the best mario sports game ever made in my opinion. For anyone interested in tackling this for a beat or master I do recommend looking into all the characters and what they're good at, this game goes surprisingly deep and will tear you apart if you come at it expecting to just hit the ball and strike out every computer. It doesn't help the game mostly leads you to using strong characters at the wrong position. DK is a mediocre pitcher and the best shortstop in the game. Diddy is a horrific pick for catcher but one of the best pitchers and outfielders in the game. The magikoopas are incredible at playing 1st and 3rd, etc. Really, really cool baseball game even if you aren't a mario fan.

DK is a great pitcher against the CPU, second only to bowser. Hard in, hard out, soft away will mow down everything until the CPU decides it is time for you to taste the pain. Ironically DK and Bowser are the pitchers you want to hit against when going for hitting related stars since their charge pitches are hard and straight. Best shortstop is yoshi or birdo by a lot thanks to their range.

Power pitching vs the AI is an interesting tradeoff I think. It's obviously easier to execute but like most mario sports games power is balanced, like you said, to the AI randomly deciding "Yeah this noki is hitting that perfectly for a triple and then pianta is hitting a homerun" whereas characters like Boo and Diddy can realistically no hit the AI every game on all levels at the risk of basically any bad pitch being a guaranteed double or worse. If you're good at batting DK is a great pitcher but I still prefer his value at shortstop on that starting roster at least.
Birdo and Yoshi are definitely the best shortstops.
Bowser is so insanely broken vs the AI lmao when you unlock him it's basically a victory lap, can't wait.

on my bowser run through the special cup, i ended up winning most games through mercy quite easily within 3 innings, i didn't really have that easy of a time with any other team lmao. also got all star challenges for his entire team pretty quickly too.

The strategy for pitching I got off a guide on gamefaqs. Seems to work 99% of the time.. throw a regular speed (just tap A) ball that starts on the inside of the plate and then curve it in to where the cpu backs off the plate. Go inside to make it a ball and not a strike, or they’ll probably get a good hit on it. Next pitch throw a fastball (hold down A) on the outside corner. Majority of the time they will miss because your previous pitch backed them off the plate and they can’t reach the fastball. Then repeat steps 1 and 2. For the pitchers who don’t throw so hard, like toadette for example, when she throws her fastball you may have to curve it to the outside some since it is a bit slower. Usually they still won’t be able to hit it.

facing off against wario helps, since his charged pitch goes straight and won't curve. i ended up getting that achievement off of Wario.

Mastered! I always remembered this game fondly, but revisiting it now that I'm older, I had no idea just how deep, enjoyable, and full of personality it really is. This game absolutely became my fixation for a while - working on everyone's superstar checklist was really addicting, and getting to master the minigames afterward was a fun treat. Thank you so much for the set, I had a blast!

Mastered! This set is by no means a walk in the park. The devs really knew how to frustrate the player with some of those star missions haha. The minigames were relatively short so it was possible to get a rhythm going for the 100 pointer. Totally abused Darkfang114's pitching strategy to guarantee wins and such that tip was a blessing! ezZz

kind of weird you have to be specific people to unlock other so if I mess up I just have to restart I’m confused lol like I unlock yoshi and baby Luigi in the same challenge session so I didn’t get the trophy?

It's maybe a bit unclear at first - there are some characters, like Baby Luigi, who are initially locked *in all modes other than Challenge mode*. Clearing Challenge Mode playing as Yoshi's team unlocks Baby Luigi for all modes, getting you the achievement.
