Important Note: The In-Game Trades are different in the Japanese version from the US releases. Refer to the following list:

As others mentioned, the biggest difference is now you need a Jigglypuff to trade for Mr. Mime instead of Abra. If you decide to use one of your moon stones on Jigglypuff for the Second Milestone, you will need to catch a second Jigglypuff before losing Mt. Moon. If you forget, you will have to restart the challenge as there's no way to get Jigglypuff on the eastern side of Mt. Moon.

I don't think its actually necessary to restart the challenge, since after defeating your rival in Nugget Bridge you can go straight to Bill's House and get the Ticket for the Ship, you can get Cut from the Captain there, before defeating Misty, this allows you to return through Diglett's Tunnel, use Cut at the small tree on Route 2 and return to Pewter, you can go to the western side of Mt. Moon this way. But like it was stated earlier, this would only be needed if you evolved the Jigglypuff and didn't get a second one before going to Cerulean, so its very situational, but alas, no need to restart the whole challenge at least.

Mastered! According to RetroArch, this took me 21:56:24 in real time (mostly sped up) and I finished with a final In-Game time of 69:05 (for reference, my final IGT was 80:19 for Red Version and 61:31 for Yellow Version).

Surprisingly, despite the much longer grinds in Milestones 1 and 3 as well as the fact that I don't know any Japanese, this only took slightly longer than the Oak Challenge for Yellow Version. I've gotten a lot better since I did the Oak Challenge for Red Version (that was my first set on RA) so I managed to seriously improve my routing this time.

The first milestone was not the longest for me this time, I beat it in about 21:40 IGT. I recommend choosing Bulbasaur as it reaches its max evolution at Level 32 instead of 36. Pidgeot and Venusaur were challenging but as long as you pay attention to the Japanese move names and only keep attacking moves, you can evolve them quickly after some grinding

The second milestone was much easier, but it has a roadblock that could potentially end your run: if you use one of your Moon Stones on Jigglypuff, you will need to catch another Jigglypuff before leaving Mt. Moon to be able to trade for a Mr. Mime. I almost missed this but luckily read some of the comments above which saved me

TLDR, THE IN-GAME TRADES ARE DIFFERENT IN THE JAPANESE VERSION

The third milestone took me the longest this time, accounting for about 30 hours IGT. This is partially because I abused the slot machines at the game corner to get Dragonair in addition to the usual Porygon. Try to be as conservative as possible with your exp in this milestone as there are a lot of water types that need to be evolved in addition to the usual Rhydon and Dragonite. I finished this at 63:09

The fourth milestone is the last roadblock but it's still very easy. Try to catch Muk and Weezing in the wild. Omystar / Kabutops + Rapidash are annoying but easy

I'd recommend anyone trying this to use Google Lens on their phone for on-the-fly translations. It's not stunningly accurate, but it gives you enough of an idea of what everything says to understand as long as you have enough game-knowledge from playing in English. I.E. Poke Ball is translated as monster ball, growl is translated as crying etc.

I see a lot of people saying they had restart because they didn't get the extra Jigglypuff to trade for Mr. Mime. Restarting isn't necessary. You can catch a Mr. Mime with the following setup:

1. Catch an Abra next to Nugget Bridge.
2. Heal at Vermillion City to set your return Pokecenter.
3. Set up Mew Glitch, using Abra's Teleport, with this Trainer on Route 6:

4. Go east of Vermillion City and fight the Gambler next to the building.
5. Teleport back to Vermillion City Pokecenter directly after the fight.
6. Return to Route 6.

As soon as you enter Route 6, your menu will open up. Close it and a wild Mr. Mime fight will start. Use a Pokemon that can put it to sleep because it's not as easy to catch as other wild Pokemon in the area.

Catching it does count for the achievement. I recommend saving before doing the process so you can retry if you need to. Don't save during the process because resetting in the middle of it will mess it up.
