At last I clocked in at 91 hours to master

And pardon my French but F-U-C-K the Mimic grind! I used roughly between 35 and 40 hours to grind it out!

The trigger icons popping up is a very good feature, really helped in pure land with all the trees that can hide the chests.

Today, I learned not to open chests too quickly. I got the Cup of Wishes from Marmablue but the achievement didn't pop. There was a lot going on, "enemy gets whacked", them casting a spell, me casting a spell, any stat changes from their spell, opening a chest, etc. The time from opening the chest to the text popping up to tell me what was in it was about four text boxes in between. That was long enough between the opening and the text that the achievement didn't trigger. I got it again a little later on with no issue but it was still a minor annoyance. Beware when opening chests while you're fighting multiple enemies!

I'm disappointed to hear that. I tried really hard to prevent those situations from occuring, but the memory is extremely erratic in those cases. I thought I had ironed out all of those cases, so I apologize. Do you recall at what point the trigger icon disappeared?

I wasn't paying full attention when it happened so I can't really say. A lot of text boxes got added to the stack very quickly so it took a good bit of time for it to resolve down enough to tell me what was in the box. By that time, the achievement trigger icon was probably long gone.

I just wanted to let folks know that it can happen if there's too much going on at once. I've had text stacks take a solid 30 seconds to get around to telling me what's in a box before.

It isn't something I'd worry about too much. I've been playing the game for almost 30 years, and I'm familiar with how the game works on the back-end, so you'd think I'd know better by now. I blame years of speedrunning for my impatience...

This was definitely something I was aware of and actually put quite a bit of effort into attempting to mitigate. In most cases (from my testing) the achievement still hold up, but sadly I'm not surprised to hear there was an issue. I'll see if there's anything else I can come up with to try to better protect, but I'm not confident there is a more reliable way due to how dynamic so much of this memory is.

I do fully agree with your recommendation of waiting until things are more calm before opening a chest.

Probably as stable as it can be without deep diving into the coding and digging around. The game has some very wild calculations for some of the simplest things at times and it would definitely be way more trouble than it's worth to pursue further. Especially if it can be resolved with a simple "Just wait a few seconds if there's a lot going on before you open it."

I'm just happy there's achievements and impressed that they're as stable as they are. The game isn't exactly known for its immaculate programming.

Wanting to have the icons appear and also the achievement be deconflicted because there are many cases where multiple coexisting enemies drop common items that are each other’s rare items, dynamic entity memory, dynamic message stacking and processing… it was a nightmare to tackle and honestly, kind of a miracle that it is as stable as it is, heh.

Mastered the set a few hours ago. Had a blast grinding it out! It says it took 74 hours but I have a bad habit of walking away and leaving the game running. I'd say about 15-20 hours of that is me not being around. XD

For some reason it often seems like after getting one rare item, I get another one quickly after. Now it was completely insane with two back to back. But then it might be nothing for half an hour or so, and then again two. Very strange.

Drop rates for enemies are a little funky. There's a handful of different calculations that are run and specific enemies have drop calculations that are different from others. It's probably chaining back to back drops like that because of what you're fighting and the drop rates for those enemies/items. Also, it's dependent on if you've leveled up at any time and who you're opening the chest with.

The contents of a chest aren't determined when the chest drops, either. Until you try to shake it open, it's cycling through a lot of dynamic memory every frame. The cycling stops and the calculations start running when the *shake shake* starts. The *shake shake* process is how long it takes the game to crunch the numbers and variables. That's why you can't perform any inputs or a second player can't also open a chest at the time time.

That's the best short explanation I can give. The detailed explanation is muuuuuch longer. XD

I mean, such randomness is essentially a bell curve, and if you hit the lower or upper end of it... it equals out in the long term. Some monsters take far longer than expected, others much shorter. I just hope that I will later have luck with the mimic boxes, which are three layers of randomness: Getting one from the shapeshifter, getting a treasure chest from it, and that chest giving the rare drop.

I don't know what just happened. I tried to farm the mimics, some Captain Duck appeared and did Exploder on my girl, I tried to get in the door, cycled through characters, randomly got a glove's orb. There was no treasure chest I opened or anything.

Okay, after some searching I found info on a German forum. The sunken continent has a room that is inaccessible, but has a glove and sword orb in treasure chests. On rare occasions when leaving the train the treasure chest spawns there invisibly and can be picked up. This seems to happen only for the glove's orb.

So I will just reload the old game without that glove's orb, so I don't mess up the achievement for getting it in the Mana Fortress later.

Yeah, the level 8 glove orb chest is normally unobtainable due to a mapping error in the Underground City and the axe orb chest is missing entirely due to a programming oversight.

It's rare, but possible, to get lucky enough that the glove orb chest's hitbox spawns at just the right spot and it can be interacted with. There's no setup or anything for it. It's just pure luck. Seems you got lucky!
