OMG talk about hard as nails! You pretty much have to go end to end on a level without taking damage! And that's easier said than done on a bullet hell game, especially on a Cave bullet hell game! I'll be back for you Deathsmiles....bunnie wants some of those achieves!

Really having a hard time inputting the secret codes. I already tried following the guide (assigning 2P to keyboard, or to 1P controller) and it doesn't work. Do you need to input the codes very fast? Or does it accept slightly slower inputs?

I've also read in another guide that you have to insert a coin first before inputting the code. Is this required?

Yes, you'll need to insert a coin before attempting to input the code. Also, after successfully inputting a code, you'll need to restart the emulator before you can input another.

Bless up bro but the 300 Mill score achievement is WILD that’s a barrier even some of the most dedicated 1CC players struggle to reach. The set is amazing don’t get me wrong, but that one achievement is optimistic for sure😬

Thanks for the feedback! I agree, 300 mil is definitely a extremely tough goal to reach, and I've been thinking about how to rebalance this set a bit. Especially with MBL on the horizon.

If you're having trouble with the codes, make sure free play is turned off. Even with pressing the coin button, I had no luck with the codes until I turned off free play.

Great set. Having a ton of fun with it!

Does this have bad input lag/missing slowdown with emulation compared to the Xbox 360 version? The fact that nobody even broke 150m yet is a bit concerning. I've heard the later CAVE games (after Mushihimesama) are pretty bad for emulation accuracy, but it's also been some years since I last checked and maybe emulation improved since then.

I did 300 million a few years back on the Xbox port, as a new shmup player without save state practice it took a couple of months of learning, but you could definitely speed that grind up if you had those good practice tools and prior genre experience. You never have to interact with Death Mode to get 300 mil and I had some stupid deaths at the castle due to nerves but I still ended up with 302 million lol. I also never got truly consistent with the volcano double recharge, probably due to lack of convenient save state practice, so I was just relying on luck and a ton of resets to make up for it.


Also worth mentioning that the Bloody Jitterbug unlock requirements in MBL are way harder than getting 300 million in vanilla Deathsmiles, so that's gonna be fun...

As far as I can tell, this version seems to have less slowdown compared to the Xbox 360 port, but the inputs are perfectly responsive.

Ok yeah, well I think the MBL Bloody Jitterbug achievement is never happening then, unless you can somehow convince top Japanese superplayers to sign up for the site and grind this version. I'm not specifically gonna ask for a nerf since it's developer-intended content and I love hard challenges, but I think we just have to accept that it isn't getting mastered lol.


This base set is far more realistic though, unless Death Mode EX Castle without slowdown is just too insane or something. If I get around to the grind and manage to derust enough to get the currently unobtained achievements, then I'll be sure to post full video proof for them!

I tried to balance the MBL set based on its increased difficulty, but reaching Bloody Jitterbug will definitely be an intense challenge. Luckily the ability to power up more frequently alleviates some of that, especially while playing as Sakura, but it's still going to take a lot of skill.

Like this set though, once it's released I'll be monitoring it, and if it needs to be rebalanced further for any reason, I'm more than open to doing that.

Well, I tried the game now and it runs pretty good! I'm usually very sensitive to input lag and slowdown issues but this is very playable, even the strats like using lock-shot as a means to produce extra slowdown seem to work well enough. Last time I looked into this, FBNeo didn't even support Cave CV1000 games, so this is a nice surprise.

Alright, it's mastered. To my surprise FBNeo definitely runs well enough to make the pre-nerf achievements doable, but it would have been a HELL of a grind even for someone who already knew the game. (Still don't think I'm capable of an MBL mastery but that's another story)

The difference between a Death Mode EX 4CC and a 1CC is absolutely massive, and the difference between scoring 200m and 300m is also quite big. Would have probably taken me a month minimum, probably more depending on whether I needed to take a break from the grind for my own sanity.

Anyway, thanks for the set! I had a lot of fun, even if the full-game credit feeding runback for another Tyrannosatan no-damage attempt got on my nerves a little at the end :P

Absolutely amazing! Congrats on the mastery!! I was worried about the no-damage final bosses when I seen it was the last two you were working on. I'll have to keep monitoring the set to see if it needs to be balanced further.

If I did do any other adjustments it would either be to bump up the no-damage Tyrannosatan to 100 pts due to its tedium, or to move it from no-damage to no-continue. I'm leaning towards the former so it doesn't diminish the accomplishment.

Anyways, glad to see someone get the first mastery, and thanks for all of the input as well as the guides for the tougher achievements! It definitely helped make the set that much better. :D

No-damage Jitterbug is perfectly fine, it's just that my scoring routes don't touch Death Mode so I didn't get many chances at it during normal play. Also the way to cheese it is with 3 bombs, and during normal gameplay you would never bomb Jitterbug since it gives you a life upgrade for no-bomb.

Tyrannosatan is a different story though, and I don't really know a way to fix the achievement without completely ruining the challenge. It's a cool challenge when you play in softcore and limit yourself to one savestate to get back to before the fight, but that runback in Hardcore is just brutal.

There's also nothing else in the set that really encourages you to learn Tyrannosatan's patterns good enough for a no-damage run, so you're almost guaranteed to be stuck with that at the end and nothing else to do. Death Mode EX 1CC would have probably been the thing to do it, but that no longer exists so you're just left with one achievement that feels quite out of place and encourages mindless credit feeding to get back there faster, which goes against the whole concept of how to play a shmup.

If I was making a change to the points, I'd personally lower Jitterbug no damage to 25 and raise Tyrannosatan to 100. The no-damage achievements for the first six stage bosses also aren't really worth 25 if you look at them, they will happen during natural play and they're WAY easier than scoring 100m which is also worth 25 points. It's just really hard to make good achievements for this stuff and also score them appropriately within the limitations of RA's point system, because you can always just "sacrifice" your run and 3-bomb a boss for an easy no-damage with no skill required.

Overall I don't have a great solution and I don't think deleting/reworking the achievement is a good idea either, I think we just have to accept that some things are imperfect and not super fun to play for.
