The maximum stars are quite difficult but yes, you then have to worry about hundreds of medals. Since the official achievement list for this game only focused on stars and didn't really have much to do with anything else, you indeed are on your own. Maybe if you figure them out you can put up a guide, lol.
I spent about 10 hours over the past couple of days trying to ensure the save protection was 100% functional, but I did end up finding a rare situation where it could change value (particularly in missions where they ended with a video). So, I have gone through every achievement and leaderboard and changed the address to something that is rock solid. Hopefully that will be the end of any issues. My apologies for the previous failed unlocks.
I did fix a couple of small errors after your last message and I had a look at tracking the kills for each weapon. They're stored in kind of an annoying way, in that they are grouped in different parts of the memory instead of all being together. The plan is to give them all a total of 1, then give surrounding memory a value to see if the medal will be awarded. If I can't get it to happen, I think the next step will be to remove it and possibly the other two from the medal achievement requirements. As it may be that they are indeed broken.
