is there a way to shoot diagonally in this game? or is it just tied to certain vehicles and weapons? Just wondering if i'm missing something, beat the game & it was a fun time.
Rainbowmon2 13 Jan 2025 17:59
So, um... What are the differences between the characters? Tried looking it up, but can't seem to find details about it.
Rainbowmon2 13 Jan 2025 19:10
@TanteiRotana It seems to depend on the vehicle/weapon. A few examples (I'm probably missing something):

- The default weapon cannot shoot diagonally

- The Enemy Chaser homes onto enemies, making "diagonal" shots easy, even though you can't aim directly in a diagonal direction

- The Heavy Machine Gun only fires diagonally if you swap from shooting left/right to up and back again.

- Some vehicles can shoot directly in a diagonal direction

Also, because it wasn't immediately clear to me and I only discovered it by accident, I'll mention it here in case it helps someone else: You *CAN* shoot downwards, but only if you're in the air. Helpful in situations like the third boss where enemies can spawn on the floor below you.

Metal slug is always fun, but boy does it remind me of how much of a softcore gamer I am when I struggle to not continue 10 times in a single level, think to myself is deathless even possible, and then I pull up a deathless run and the guy makes it look like a child's game lol. Mad respect to anyone that masters these arcade style shooter games with deathless achievements.
JRodslegend 14 Jan 2025 22:25
Holy crap... Ninja Gaiden mastery? Git Gud. Contra? Not even close. Prinny? Psh, keep trying.
My thumbs will NEVER recover after just a basic arcade playthrough of this. Maybe im just an old fart but I cant possibly see how people can grind this without a turbo button... Or robotic hand... damn cyborgs. And most other games I can at least SEE how deathless is achievable, but the lack of strafe AND being able to aim while holding still just boggles my mind that this is possible, add that to horrendous hitbox you have and the longest lag to slide I've ever seen in gaming. Gah, to all who have mastered this, I bow my head to you. Masters of all gaming.

Everything on the set looks doable to me with some time, except the 1cc achievement. That one seems completely impossible to me :p
WokeWendy 16 Jan 2025 07:14
Was pretty intimidated when this came up for AotW but the game and set are super lenient with unlimited continues and increasing the lives. Just need some persistence and patience. Very fun game even if you die every five seconds.
gorocz 16 Jan 2025 23:40
Yeah, so apparently Start+Select returns you to main menu and you lose all the arcade mode progress, so be careful if those are your hotkeys in the emulator...
ChaoPlaymate 17 Jan 2025 19:14
@JRodslegend yeah I feel like most 1cc achievements for games like this just come down to memorization. Replay the game a hundred times over till you get it down perfectly.
alvayuso 18 Jan 2025 02:08
I actually like the game, I just don't know how to play without dieing constantly, so I wont Master this in my entire life. Anyway, a really cool game.
bryandelmond 19 Jan 2025 21:24
Dude the Final Mission deathless is an insane achievement. It might actually be harder than 1 cc, cause you can still die 2 times in it.
bryandelmond 2 Feb 2025 23:28
Mastered. Holy crap I spent an ungodly time trying this. Over 30 h of gameplay, its finallly over. @ChaoPlaymate as I understand it, most of this one is indeed memorization but unfortunately the last 2 bosses have RNG in their patterns and shots so it is very hard to defeat them consistently. Just gotta hope the bosses favor you with good RNG.

MASTERED my favorite Metal Slug game of the series, for the second time!

Is a much more simple Set than the Arcade version, but because the final boss, is rough to get from the beginning to him and fight him without lose some life. Even if he is much more easier than Level 8 Arcade difficulty, he's pattern got some randomic way to spawn and many different technique required to evade (with an imperfect hit box system...). I love this boss, but is damned for any player that try to challenge him XD
The rest of the game is very easy, you proceed slowly and you get an easy walk in the park (and, on the vehicle, you are almost invincible, even running and shooting at the same time). I don't understand how many players got stuck on first 4 Missions (beside forth boss) because is easier than the mainstream Metal Slug 2 (with the overclock to remove slowdown, at least). In my opinion, only the first Metal Slug is easier than the 5.

Anyway, outstanding game largely underrated by many, that all Metal Slug players that played one time in their life in the Arcade should try.

My favorite even if the second got a special place in my heart (and only thanks to Retroarch, I could appreciate entirely because today any slowdown for me is an abomination).

But... mediocre Set, I admit; nothing exceptional, much easier than the available retropoint says, in my opinion. the very tough run&gun games are others...
