Those patterns are thanks to shortcomings with the game's RNG that produce a deterministic sequence of values to use for randomness. The guide I was using for my run ended up with the exact same pattern you mentioned: Full-Cure, Shell, Break x3, but with a successful hit on the left soldier, so we at least know it's *possible* to score a hit with that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G34MoThsPgI&t=1094s

I can only assume that the same sequence is used to determine hit chances, and if so, that particular Break spell will always miss for you; there has to be something else at play:

The Hit% formula uses your own Luck (there's one Luck Up available from the D-District Prison, but that shouldn't matter; I gave it to Squall), your own Hit% (I don't think you can influence this), and the target's Evasion and Luck, and I wonder if *that* can vary enough depending on what level the leftmost soldier happens to be.

Has all of this been on the same instance of the game—that is, you haven't reset the game? If so, you might want to try doing so. Note that a hard reset puts you at the beginning of the RNG sequence—you will get the exact same randomness if you make identical actions—so get into an encounter or two first before fighting the soldiers to change the offset so you get different results. If you have been resetting, but been making a beeline from the save point straight to the encounter, that might be your issue too.
AngeloLeonhart 1 Jun 2023 01:18
I did reset the game, I fought battles and ran in-between the forced fight, did everything you said and nothing, absolutely NOTHING, not a single Break cast will hit the left soldier.

I legitimately don't know what to do nor how y'all landed a Break on this.
With that said, I thought of killing the last soldier and giving the EXP to Selphie or Irvine, does it work? Will I still have remaining EXP for the rest of the run?
AriMaeda 1 Jun 2023 01:57
The issue is the only character with any EXP to spare at the end is Rinoa, and I'm not sure if you can select her for the upcoming Laguna dreams.

My Selphie and Irvine had 60 and 59 EXP remaining by the end, though I didn't reset for optimal EXP in that last dream because it wasn't necessary; you might be able to do a bit better than this. Rinoa had 432 by the end.

But if you can assign her in the dream and the EXP from the soldier ls less than about 500, you should be able to make that work. I'd be nervous about deviating from the route, but if you've been at it for ten hours with no results, then it might be the right call.
AriMaeda 1 Jun 2023 02:07
I just checked and you cannot select her for that dream. If you haven't gotten the Flame Saber yet, you can have her get the EXP from that Forbidden instead of Selphie. That was 320 EXP for me (dunno how the GameFAQs author got it to be about 200!).
AngeloLeonhart 1 Jun 2023 02:16
Just for future notice, I got 123 on this forced fight, by petrifying 3 soldiers and killing the left one.

So if I get the EXP from Forbidden with Rinoa, I'm safe to get these 123 EXP with Selphie and complete the run?
AriMaeda 1 Jun 2023 02:19
Yes, that should be safe.
AngeloLeonhart 1 Jun 2023 04:42
I'll keep trying tomorrow, but I think I found an issue. Since Rinoa's level is higher than Selphie, the Forbidden's Level is also higher and it's giving a huge amount of EXP... what should I do?
At this point of the story (going to Trabia with Selphie) will Rinoa engage in any more forced battles? If not I'll just grab any EXP the Forbidden gives me.
AriMaeda 1 Jun 2023 04:59
Rinoa won't be gaining any more EXP after this point, so as long as the Forbidden's EXP isn't causing a level up, you ought to be fine.

She normally only gets EXP at two points: the Grat at Balamb Garden, and the soldiers before the rematch against BGH251F2. You've already done both.
mukreng 1 Jun 2023 05:05
This should be your Average Final EXP remaining without leveling up once you reach disc 4

Squall- 60
Quistis- 25
Zell- 46
Selphie- 153
Rinoa- 556
Irvine- 118

Good Luck.
AriMaeda 1 Jun 2023 05:14
I don't know how much stock I put into those figures. The guide those figures come from was initially accurate, but it started slipping at about the halfway point and I wasn't able to achieve the numbers they were giving, no matter how many tries I put in. See the impossibly low figure of ~200 EXP for the Forbidden, or asking you to assign EXP to Selphie at a point where she isn't available to use.
AngeloLeonhart 5 Jun 2023 01:45
I made some good progression, I'm currently at Tri-Point and need a small help. Is there a catch on how often Gilgamesh appears? Been some 20 fights already and he does not appear.
AriMaeda 5 Jun 2023 04:50
Just in case you didn't know: unlike Odin, Gilgamesh can show up at any time in the battle, once per battle. So once you start the fight, put the controller down and wait until he shows up or Squall dies. He ought to appear rather often; from my experience, he'd show up more than 50% of the time. Give this a shot and let me know if he shows up for you.

I also put together a video showing the movement I used while grinding out attempts, that's in the comments for the achievement in question.
ChronoGear 5 Jun 2023 05:55
Tri-Point was one of the worst fights for me this time around. Lots of luck required. To get the 25% chance at the attack you want and then have it be a critical hit on top of that
AngeloLeonhart 5 Jun 2023 18:02
Yeah this will be rough... Gilgamesh appeared only once in some 40 battles and he used Zantetsuken of all swords.
Why we can't face Spxinhsara first? Then we could deal with Tri-Point using Limit Breaks.
AriMaeda 5 Jun 2023 19:07
Are you attacking Tri-Point? The Mega Spark counterattack will wipe your party; the strat for that fight is to sit there and not attack him. You're waiting for Gilgamesh to show up and get a critical hit with Masamune to do almost all of the damage, and then have Squall finish him off with a single attack so you never get counterattacked.

Otherwise, are you at full HP? You can't get limit breaks in this fight, so there's no reason not to be at full HP to give yourself as much time as possible.

If it's not those, can you record some attempts so I can see what's going wrong? Because something must be going seriously wrong for Gilgamesh to be showing up that infrequently!

Sphinxaur isn't possible as the first boss, as it has 20,000 HP and its first phase only uses attacks; you can't beat it before it beats you. NJNL is only possible because Tri-Point is *barely* beatable via this method so you can unlock limit breaks!
AngeloLeonhart 5 Jun 2023 20:20
Yea I'm doing just as you say. In the battle I just leave the controller waiting for Gilgamesh to appear and I'm not attacking. He appeared once between 10 battles, but this time he used Excalibur.
AriMaeda 5 Jun 2023 20:31
Do you have the battle speed set to the slowest setting? Gilgamesh's timer seems to be independent of that, so you want it to be at the slowest speed so Tri-Point gets fewer attacks.
ChronoGear 5 Jun 2023 20:34
I went into the fight and held down fast forward and every so often switching the menu to a different character. I don't know if the menu thing helps, but you should at least get more appearances faster that way.
AngeloLeonhart 5 Jun 2023 22:15
Thanks for the battle speed tip, I forgot about that.
*sigh* So close and yet so far from finishing this set. I hope Tri-Point is the only annoying boss left, except for Ultimecia.
AriMaeda 6 Jun 2023 04:31
You're on the home stretch! It's just Omega and Ultimecia after this, the rest are a joke.

Omega is rolling Slots over and over until you get The End. Unlike Break, that one can't miss. =P It's easier than some other bosses you've done so far, but it'll take some time.

Ultimecia is somewhat like a longer version of the BGH251F2 rematch. The fight goes on much longer, so it heavily depends on Invincible Moon luck, but there's more leniency as the boss has some attacks that won't kill a character even if your invincibility is down.
