The hack is an extension to the Donkey Kong arcade game. This means that it uses files from the Donkey Kong US 1 rom (dkong.zip) to operate properly.

If the dkong.zip is missing you recieve a message stating that it is missing the files s_3i_b.bin, s_3j_b.bin and v-5e.bpr.

So you need the dkongitd.zip (patched file for hack) and the dkong.zip (original game) to be present.

If you use an fbneo romset you do not have to do anything. The dkongitd.zip and dkong.zip from the set are all you need to run the game.
