This might be controversial for me to say, but a part of me can't help but wonder just how "easy" this set's dev thought those achievements as well as the stage-exclusive achievements were to get for them alone. I specifically remember that when this set first came out before they got the points they were provided with now, all of those score achievements as well as most of the stage challenge achievements gave out a measly five points despite how absurdly difficult they could genuinely get. Seriously, how the heck was five points a suitable reward for clearing Casino Park, a literal RNG-based stage, in a minute and thirty seconds with Team Rose by using literal speedrunning tactics? It almost felt insulting working so hard to get those achievements only to be rewarded with the literal bare minimum and I have no idea if that was intentional on the dev's part at that point. I was even going to give a critique regarding that but the scores got updated before I could do that so it defeated the purpose of me doing that. It still doesn't make me any less baffled on how the dev possibly came to the conclusion that the scores they expect people to get for certain Special Stages could be doable for some people that were determined enough despite how shoddily the controls are. And I agree with Luks that thinking about it, it is strange that they are applied to the Emerald Challenges when they easily could be applied to the Bonus Challenges which are more score-focused instead.

Agreed, but in another light; the sheer absurdity of the RNG and "difficulty" of this game begs wether ANY of these achievements deserve to be in something like a bonus set at all.

This game can be so frustratingly difficult at basically all times - at what point is the line drawn? Obviously simply clearing the stages wth each team and unlocking the final story is one thing - but score achievements and timing achievements are so against you at every point in this games typical playthrough that they can be hair-pulling infuriating.

So - where is the designer to draw the line? At scores? At times? at emeralds? At clearing team dark stages? If this game actually functioned properly then maybe we wouldn't be having this conversation - and this was any other game a semi-hard speedrun achievement wouldn't even really be a problem. But this game is so baffingly RNG based that we're all writing text walls on retroachievements dot com complaining about it!

I was excited for this et, but I stopped playing it for the emeralds alone.
If anyone knows about "The Sonic Center" the emerald scores make me think of the ones in that very competitive site, they are like "Ah yeah 30,000 is possible so I'll lower it to 25,000 that should be fine"
idk if thats how it really went but they are really asking too much, instead of increasing their point value I would've lowered the required score.
Other challenges are super hard too but at least on those you can retry the level.

Sure, amy levels are short but she's so slow sometimes you can't even catch the emerald

I've played a lot the GC version of this game, it feels that the bonus stages are a little touchier and more broken than GC version by my memory, not sure.

I have completed those Special Stage achievements and it was quite an intricate experience, there is a lot to talk about, it's certainly not RNG-based, all the jankyness happens for a reason and it is possible to notice patterns to avoid (The normal gameplay is already about noticing janky patterns to avoid, but it's on Special Stages where the issue is at its large)

So I compiled my playthroughs into a video and made a detailed explanation that might help people who are hopeless about doing those achievements.

Out of that what helps the most is knowing that using power formation slows down the emerald as well

Does anyone else get REALLY bad input lag with this game? Everything I do has a half second of delay to it, and it makes the game a lot more frustrating. I tested the GameCube version of Heroes on Dolphin, as well as other PS2 games on PCSX2, and neither had any issues with input delay. Maybe I just downloaded a bad ROM?

I messed around with the settings in PCSX2, and I’ve found that the game is MUCH more responsive if you raise the game’s speed to 110%. I have no idea why it works, but it seems to help with the input delay. I don’t think the increased speed makes things any harder, either.

I finally got the turquoise one and wow.....I agree that the achievements are ridiculous, but it would really suck for the few people (myself included) that actually got them haha. I feel like if they were going to remove them they should've months ago when people started complaining. If anything, the gamecube version achievements should be made more accessible when gamecube launches for people that don't want to do this. I'm not sure what the max point they can award are but I feel like that turquoise one should've been like 100 points lol.

Alright so I got the last emerald achievement finally....definitely watch the youtube video someone posted above. Make sure your analog sensitivity is like 80% (this makes the entire game better and I didn't figure it out until the last emerald lol). Yellow and red emerald took about 3 hours of savestate practice and 2 hours of gameplay practice where as the turquoise one took like 6 hours of savestate practice and another 3 or 4 to actually beat. All in all, difficult but not impossible.

Can someone help? I have been trying to get achievements such as "Is This a Collect-A-Thon?" amongst others and it isn't popping. I have put hardcore mode on using PCSX2 but even then it shows Hardcore mode as you load the game but it isn't actually in Hardcore mode as far as I can tell. I also can't submit my times to the leaderboards. Please help!

Mastered! But dear lord some of these really are bonus set material. Team Chaotix speedrun requires understanding of professional LTS strats, and the Chaos Emerald challenges should've been Act 1 Special Stage challenges (as Luks mentioned) since there's no incentive to play them otherwise. A revision would greatly benefit this set imo

This game feels way too painful to play at 30FPS when you know there's better options but not currently supported by RA. Just having a 60FPS patch support would have made this far more enjoyable...

Mastery #410: Hot dang, the pain is finally over! While I understand Sonic Heroes isn't the best 3D Sonic game, especially this version, I still had some fun going through this entire set.

That said, some of these achievements did feel closer to bonus set material with how much perfection they require (Chaotix speedrun of Grand Metropolis, and the Chaos Emerald challenges). Finally got them after multiple tries, but still a concern. Won't harp on this too much, as many others have said it better than I could.

To whom it may concern the PS2 version is indeed INFERIOR to the GC and even XBox version. The PC version is even worse.
