The trick is at the start of the match to jump up and hit the ball against the left wall and if you do it right it'll bounce off the left wall, into the right wall, then straight into the ground and the opponent won't even move or try to hit it back.

Mastered! Game actually was easier when I didn't jump as much, but I couldn't stop myself from trying to get the spikes. The sound is too satisfying!
