Thank you for this set! <3 Obscure 1 was always my favorite one, each character having their own unique abilities and using their flashlight to get rid of the darkness of the monsters first before defeating them were cool mechanics that were missing from the second game, which I felt was more linear and had a lower budget, but I still love both games. Can't wait to replay it soon!

I apparently got a bug where after the map is stolen from you, the door upstairs that's supposed to have a padlock on it doesn't have it, and it just says it's locked... Lovely.

@Gui2310g Thank you. I looked into it and it seems the European version has one extra use for the pliers: "Then, exclusively in the European version, you can use it to open a door in the second floor of the library."

I'd mainly played the Steam version which supports multiple languages so I take it it's based on the European PS2 version for that reason, you can also see it here:

A good tip to help you get started in hard difficulty:
After recruiting Dan near the end of the prologue, unload both pistols and give Dan's to Kenny. You will have 30 in reserve. If you're quick enough escaping, you don't need to fire any shots, and when you receive your first pistol later, you'll have the 30 from the prologue.

Just learned about these and can't wait to sink in. Personally I think this games mechanics are MUCH better than Obscure 2. 2 had better music and the animations for both cinematics and gameplay was great, and the setting was quite varied, but characters not having unique stats and speeds was a let down. Also, leaving the characters survival open ended in 1 was genius (even though there is a canon, I know).

Does this game also have a propensity to crash for anyone else? It's not enough to make it unplayable, but I'm halfway during my third run now and I can't count on just a single hand how many times it crashed. Is there any setting I need to avoid this? I'm playing on the software renderer by the way, as the hardware renderers produce some visual glitches in this game. Also, the crashes only seem to happen during door loading animations. Exiting the gym during the latter half of the game seems to be the most consistent way to trigger a crash, though it still doesn't always happen.

yes it crashed for me too several times, but I think the cause was the fast forward, I abused it because I know the game well and I knew where I could use it.

@ultrawup72 Now that you mention it, I was using fast forward nearly all the time when going from one room to the next. Weird that this is a problem as I never had an issue with fast forward in any other game in this emulator. Still, this may be it.
