Cheers! Just unlocked both tournament cheevos on Mystic Peaks. I'm not sure which exact settings are required either but the following worked for me:

Setting Advanced difficulty before choosing tournament game mode (dunno if this has any effect at all). Then choosing tournament with Simulation style + manual gearbox. Drove a XJ220 and activated cockpit view at the very beginning of the race.

Could just be a coincidence that these settings worked but maybe someone with the same issue could verify or debunk this in the future :)

Awesome, man. Great work over there!

I remember driving the Jaguar XJ220 on manual and Advanced difficulty, too, so maybe that did the trick. I drove with the camera close behind the car, though. That's probably the only difference. x)

Hopefully, someone else will be able to verify later on, should they have the same issue.

Did lap in 0:49:93 on Proving Grounds, McLaren F1, full grid of McLarens, advanced, simulation - no cheevo. What was wrong? Was 8 rounds race.

Maybe for this particular lap time you could try it again with the additional settings listed in the description of the cheevo "You're LeMans", namely Cockpit view, no HUD, and no mini map (Long press the camera button to cycle through these at the start of the race).

I unlocked both the lap time cheevo as well as "You're Le Mans" in a single 8 lap race, so in theory this should work.

Other than that, possibly manual transmission?

@iLovePS2 Thanks for hints, mate. I have not tried LeMans cheevo yet, will give try. Still pretty hard to get time close to 0:49:95 anyway, did a lot of attempts in 8 laps races, so pretty disappointed when finally reached, and nothing happened. Transmission should no matter, so still on automatic.

Cheers @ImoenBG, always happy to share my experiences! Make sure to use analog steering on this track as stated by @aphexlambda. Also I believe I left the car settings stock for this race (so no changes regarding downforce, braking or gearing).

I used Duckstation ver. 0.1-6760-g0a63bec6 through EmuDeck, though in the end I really think it came down to in-game settings (See @HonorHand's completely different setup e.g.)

Interesting. You hit the hand brake and then just spin in circles and never regain control of your car again. Easily the worst game I ever played. Drifting doesn't even make sense.

good thing they nailed the need for speed formla in Hot Pursuit 1, which was alot of fun

I've gotten everything except Muhammad Ali and the Champs that aren't on Proving Grounds. I've entered hell. I really don't think traffic should be necessary if they only give 10 points, that's not challenging, just unpredictable and frustrating ;-;

That said, I'm otherwise having a damn good time learning the game and doing the set~

After mastering this set, I would like to share some tips. First, be warned that this set is pretty difficult and frustrating. The game is rather janky, although the controls are fairly tight. Only try this one either if you have a lot of experience with racing games, or if you are intimately familiar with the game itself. Now, for some bullet points:
*General Tips*
> This game simulates the lack of ABS. This means braking is only efficient in a straight line. Take corners through coasting (letting go of both pedals). If you are going into a turn too fast, try either gingerly tapping the brake while coasting or use the handbrake.
> Avoid spinning out. If you give too much power when lacking traction, you WILL lose grip with the road and you WILL spin out. Apply gas gently when appropriate (low speed corners, slippery surfaces).
>Jumps are your enemy. Once airborne, you have no control over how or where you land. Make sure to let go of the gas to avoid spinning out on landing. Straighten your car out before the jump to avoid hitting a wall mid-jump. Speaking of walls...
> Walls are pretty evil. They slow you down on contact (which may be helpful for braking), but they also love making you crash, which is bad. Wallriding is viable, but risky.
> Lastly, hold the VIEW change button to change hud mode. This hides access to the mini-map and is necessary for 1-2 achievements.

*Achievement Tips*
> Start off by playing Tournament mode. Familiarise yourself with the game, physics, and the tracks. Thus you should also...
> Use the McLaren F1 as much as you can. This is the best vehicle in the game, no contest; is required for about 35/40 achievements (and all of the hardest ones). There is no point in choosing any other, doing so will only frustrate you and make things harder than they should be.
> Save Knockout mode for last. Behind this mode stands the hardest achievement in this set, which involves completing it by crossing the finish line first in every race. To do that, you will have to be familiar with all the tracks, and with how your F1 behaves.
> When doing Time Trials, first make sure your set up is right. Follow the achievement descriptions to the T to make sure your setup is right. But, also importantly, MODIFY YOUR CAR FOR TIME TRIALS. In the car selection menu, only while Time Trial mode is selected, you have access to the SETTINGS menu for your car. Here, you should set both downforce settings to HIGH, brakes (preferably) to FRONT, gear ratio to SHORT. This setup will work for all but the first two tracks in the game. (for them, leaving everything STOCK is good enough)
> Do the "Lap" and "Race" time trials separately. For "Race" time trials, set the race to 2 laps (more laps only give you more chances to screw up), and for "Lap" time trials, set the race either to 4 or 8 laps (preferably the latter), since the achievement pops as soon as you beat the record lap time, you don't have to finish the race.
> Traffic is pain. It is super janky, often spawns on the racing line, after a blind corner, where you land or sometimes crashes on spawn and blocks the entire road. Forcing it to be enabled for time trials is a sadistic and/or misguided attempt at extra difficulty.

PS:Get the bonus track time trials right after your Knockout win. They are easy. Pacific Sprint isn't. Those two suck.

@Mayolaise, thanks for hints, I have already gave up to get North Country and Pacific Spirit lap&race time cheevos. I swear Muhammad Ali was far easier for me than these 4, Ali just needed few attempts and focus... but my times on NC and PS are still far beyond the best ones to unlock cheevos, despite the countless attempts. But I have never tried to do any changes on car settings.... so maybe I will give a try agian.

Pacific Spirit and North Country are indeed some of the hardest time trials, Pacific Spirit most of all. PS alone took me around 3-5 hours. Luck, trial and error and determination. Skill helps too I guess.
