Mastered (#95)

This is probably the worst version of breakout I've ever played
Aros2k 31 Aug 2023 02:14
Wow this is truly truly awful. Really terrible game. You can hardly influence the balls direction, the whole paddle sends the ball the same direction so you get trapped in loops between one empty corner and your paddle in the other corner for minutes at a time until you can SLOWLY influence it enough to change.

Cannot express just how bad this game is. 1/5 Avoid!!!!
Aros2k 31 Aug 2023 02:17
If you're going to play this then go for the 1k in double breakout as with two height paddles you can influence the ball more. I did 1k on classic and there's a reason less than 20% even completed one board. It took over 3 for 1k.

mastery #33, the inability to accurately control the ball's movement is frustrating, but eh, it's a decent game.

Mastery #3 I must say. it's a game that loses it's respect a little when attempting to master. Ball angle is not determined by the position of the paddle it bounces on, but is actually pre-determined based on the number of bounces it has been. That becomes extremely apparent when you try to go for 1000 points on mode 7(which is not even the easiest mode to do that on in my experience). Regardless, it does feel satisfying to master, and shouldn't take you more than a couple hours

Recently learned I'm the world's worst Breakout player lol I recommend you use the dpad. With the analog stick I find the ball phases straight through the paddle way too often.
Chickenzes27 12 Jan 2024 06:44
Is there really no good way to get decent analog control for this in the Retroarch core? You'd think fan emulation would be ahead of official emulation but the Atari 50 collection has very good analog stick and mouse controls for all the paddle games. With Stella the closest I got was the clunky absolute stick position controls, which aren't exactly easy to use.
ssolle 12 Jan 2024 22:25
i could've sworn there was a way to use mouse controls in retroarch, but it's easy to bind analog controls to mouse movement in bizhawk, maybe you should try that

This one was super frustrating. If the ball is pinging off blocks in rapid succession the paddle will studder across the field of play. To get around this I had to be moving the paddle constantly while shadowing the movement of the ball. Using the arrow keys are too damn slow, and the analog is too damn sensitive. Once I got hang of the movement the ball would still sometimes phase through the paddle. This set is not as free as it looks...

Almost lost my mind but...MASTERED!!!
My tip to go for 1k points is to play on Double Break Out mode (mode 3) because the 2 balls and bars make it easier.

The hell for me was classic mode and progressive mode (mode 7). I ended up caught up in an eternal loop with a super short bar and 1 pixel more to the right/left meant starting over.
This is the first game I've mastered for Atari and damn, this was certainly a hard choice.

Just like it was suggested before, don't think this will be easy just because of having 8 cheevos. It will be quite stressful, mind you!

Anyhow, ty @MrRage2021 for this set <3

[Mastery #8] OuuGHhghhh this was really rough, clunky.. Bad.
I should have just moved on but I'm stubborn. I did it! Eventually. Never Again.

Mastered the GBC port in 2 days. That’s a way better and easier version. Still can’t beat the damn classic mode in this. One of these days…

For anybody looking for an easier atari 2600 game to master, play digdug. Mastered in 17 minutes LOL

[Mastery #10] Oi, I can't easily control the ball! At least I got this in less than an hour!
