gen 3 subset wen. not that i would really want to go into gen 3 immediately after gen 2... especially since i went straight from gen 1 to gen 2.

you can use a master ball on the roamers in a regular playthrough (multiple if you dupe). They should be worth more than 1 point regardless of the merge.

This has to be the trickiest Prof Oak challenge, you gotta know about the right headbutt trees, changing time code, catching contest rules, roaming legendaries patterns, money saving schemes, rematches, stones and etc... Much more challenging than the others...

This was a fun challenge. Thanks for including it on the site. Although I do think it was ultimately more difficult than Gen 1's, due to the fact that Gen 1 didn't have roaming legendaries or very particular scheduled events, and even the whole money saving aspect, most of the challenge was fun. Really the only annoying part for me was capturing the roaming beasts. I think giving Wigglytuff some leniency was a good call, making it not mandatory until before Morty, as that should give you enough trainers for a sizable amount of moolah and then also giving you access to Meowth/Persian for Pay Day strats. I would have not wanted to grind berry bushes or constantly do the Daylight savings trick for rematches just to get Wigglytuff before Falkner. This run also helped me realize some cool aspects of Gen 2 that will make future casual playthroughs more beneficial, like good EXP grinding spots and better ways to get the Roaming Legendaries. Haunter with Mean Look and Hypnosis was the big MVP of that section....

Mastered! I completed this challenge with a final In-Game time of 165:35. According to RetroArch, this took me 39:18 in real time (with the emulator sped up). Of the three Professor Oak Challenges I've done so far, this is by far the most balanced. The first four milestones each present unique challenges that teach you a lot about this game's mechanics. Overall, I think the milestones do get progressively easier though (even including the Dragonite for the third milestone). If you can get past the agony of the first grind you do have a decent shot at beating this, the roaming legendaries aren't that bad with the right strategy. As others have said, I appreciate the leniency on Wigglytuff, collecting 2300+ berries before the first gym sounds absolutely insane, including Wigglytuff before Falkner would make this by far the hardest POC yet. This is also one of my luckiest playthroughs of any Pokemon game ever, I managed to catch a shiny Gastly, a 10% encounter rate shiny Onix, and best of all a 30% encounter rate shiny Heracross that had a 10% chance of fleeing each turn (it took me like 6 turns to catch). I also managed to get Pokerus on my Haunter (second time getting Pokerus ever).

didnt expect to enjoy doing this, its actually kinda feasible with speedup and background noise, although i do think that some achievements like beating red and catching the dogs should be worth more points (even after considering the merge argument)

it's important to remember that completing the pokedex here is actually worth 469 points, because you get the culmative score for each individual Pokémon...

Mastered at 181:54 in-game, but less than only 19 hours real time. I think Red and Yellow both took about 40 hours

Finally got this mastered. I got to the end part with the stones and Houndoom and while on a plane (without Internet) RetroArch crashed. Thankfully the miss over on Discord unlocked the few achievements that I couldn't redo (stones, Aerodactyl). In game time was 999:99. I think this is my third POC (FireRed a d Yellow), but don't the hardest. Time for a Poke break.

Mastered! Finally getting past the roamers was like popping a zit, whoever at Game Freak decided you shouldn't be allowed to have Ultra Balls until AFTER the roamers are set loose is cruel and unusual, to say nothing of their movement mechanics. The moment of all 8 Kanto gym leader portraits appearing in the bottom right at once was very funny. I'm very glad that Silver was the one that had a set rather than Gold, if they'd both had them I would've picked Gold since it was the one I had as a kid and probably lost the plot trying to get money without Pay Day.
