The release of Tekken 8 made me want to revisit the whole franchise and while both games are clunky as fuck, Tekken 1 was borderline unplayable. Tekken 2 feels good. Can't wait to clean the set.

Before I start this masochistic and dated game again, I just want to give Irem praise for his humor and dealing with those college-essay responses.

Ekon: I certainly went overboard with the volume of my response here. I could easily have cut out 50% and gotten my points across in a better way. For future discussion on game pages I will try to keep that in mind and be more concise.

Yet it also true that when replying to a bunch of claims, you will usually have to write a longer text when responding, unless you are just trying to "win" the argument with sarcasm, empty rhetoric or appeals to emotion.

It remains a fact that Irem by his own admission got through the game by using "broken exploits", something I didn't have to, since I actually took the time to learn by trying how several of the mechanics and their timing worked in the game. Why it was so important for Irem to grab a badge for this game when he hated it so much, is something only he can answer. I certainly wouldn't have bothered if I didn't like the game.

I've seen Tekken 2 been described as clunky by some, but this is a very subjective assessment. Personally I like the weighty and less speedy feeling and motion of the characters more in this game than in Tekken 3. It feels really good to me. But it is really well executed in both games.

Being able to master the KBD back dashing tech is very useful for breaking the AI in these older games.

Favorite Tekken game ever, easily put over 1k hours in on PSX and the arcade, but holy cow this feels terrible to play on emulator with an HD setup... Yeah the originals were always clunkier than the modern ones are now but wow, this is bad... I guess I'll be back for this badge when I have a vacation I can dedicate to just getting used to the input lag.

Lmao, this game's AI isn't even hard. While the game does feel clunky compared to later Tekkens, the AI still loves to do very unsafe and punishable moves and struggles to comprehend mid-to-low or low-to-mid strings, so pretty much every character in the game has at least one move that completely breaks the AI. Kazuya loves to use his unsafe and punishable tenstrings, and with everyone except Kuma you get a free back throw on Devil every time he uses his flying laser attack. AI also doesn't even know how to combo. Significantly easier time fighting the AI here than the high-ranked AI in 5DR and 6.

What's funny is that Tekken 2 is a hilariously busted game. Yoshimitsu's sweep is a legit infinite from a certain angle, 90% damage combos are abound, command throws are inescapable, Wang has an inescapable throw that leads to a 90% damage combo and he's not even the best character in the game because Kazuya can ToD off of CH WS2. It's very fortunate that the AI is not aware of any of that stuff because if they actually were and regularly used it against you, THEN the game's AI would actually be excessively difficult.

agreed on the icon, official artwork is plentiful for the game, unsure why it's an image of Jun that doesn't look like Jun. (but what are you gonna do. :-) )

Not only that you can manipulate AI in most Tekken games very effectively to fall for the same nonsense over and over which is very effective for your Survival mode run. You just need to better get to know it's tendencies and patterns.

Now I understand why that can be daunting for new players, but put the time in and you'll get better.
