Mastered, sadly, very hard to recomend this set, even if you are a hardcore fan. It was a LOT of work, planning, and resets, MANY RESETS. It forces you to play the game in a way that... its challenging sure, but for the wrong reasons.

If you are expecting boss battle where you barely survive using your resources, look somewhere else, here, you just reset x100 times the battle untill the rng alings, same deal with many of the card achievements. That is asuming you have a grasp of advanced techniques such as ATB tricking, or the importance of ATB speed (Not that you have many more tools given the restrictions)

Tedious is the name of the game here, extremely unfortunate, I feel the LOW LEVEL challenge is GREAT, but no junctions forces you to NOT engage with any of the game tools, making it extremely boring.

I mean not to harm the creators of the set, as im sure it took them so much work and planning to create this set, and its perfectly functional and I'm grateful we get a set for the game! but as it currently is, the set saps the fun of the game completely, as such, I can hardly recomend anyone to sit down through it like I did, either play the game casually, or don't go for the 200% is my recomendation.

A few people here argument that changing the cheevos now would undermine the efforts of previous masters... well I mastered it, and I certantly wouldn't mind getting it fundamentally changed, in fact, I feel it would be extremely beneficial to the participation in general, I also want my friends to tackle on FF8 for this, but not as it is currently. I wouldn't mind of a few these gets moved to a bonus set, or have them changed somehow so its less tedious.

Just my two cents tho, again, I don't mean any harm to the creators of the set, and I hope they don't get discouraged by my opinion, you guys did a great job overall! I just a strong opinion on a few achievements on the set.
SamsamDaGameMan 19 Jul 2022 23:45
If it wasn't for the no-level no-junction cheevos, this set would be great, but because of those, I can't recommend this set. The BGH251F2 re-fight took me over 400 attempts. Tri-Point took me hours to get and before I got to save after it I ran into a random fight which Gilgamesh Zantetsuken'd in causing me to level up, so now I get to do that again. Please, just no. To everyone who's badged this and everyone who will, hats off to you.
rlxldk 4 Aug 2022 08:01
Totally disagree with 2 above. No junction, no level up is the great experience for every FF series fan. It's not so hard as thinking. With guides it can be beaten even if you play this game first time. I really enjoyed this NJNL run.
But every barrel with honey has a spoon of dirt. And this is a cards achievements. That shit is really boooooring and most rage quits be done cuz of that. I stuck with last 2 cards cheevos and absolutely have no will to do them. Maybe later, much, much later.
xeiden 4 Aug 2022 09:48
The problem with no junction and no level up its that the game stops being a game, its doing like the guide or not archivements, not gameplay and not fun.
Elbody 4 Aug 2022 22:42
^ agreed. Also, I just don't understand how anyone could in good will say NJNL is a fun challenge, when it involves literal hundreds of resets for RNG, PER SECTION. Is really not about skill at all. I guess we have a different perspective of what a fun challenge is.
VSilverwings 6 Aug 2022 19:02
The way these achievements are written doesn't imply strongly enough you can't junction EVER. What about junctioning during boss fights that don't have a no junction achievement? You could learn things like no enc, card, etc. Just watched a guy stream his early attempts, got to the Seed exam results, only to be told he can't junction. It would just be better to have a no junction ever achievement and then it's clear. Yet to try this and it's been probably over 10 years since I did a indepth playthrough, never a no junction run, so this will be daunting to say the last when I do try.
RestlessTome 12 Aug 2022 05:09
This has got to be one of the stupidest achievements set on RA... Way to make most people skip over an awesome game that usually gets too much shit already.
thunderaquadragon 16 Aug 2022 21:04
I personally think that the achievements that require no junctioning/leveling up and some of the Triple Triad ones should be assigned to a Bonus set.
FFVIII is one of my fave Final Fantasy games of all time, the way this set is structured (imo) doesn’t do the game justice, it’s way too restrictive
Dollet 17 Aug 2022 20:20
^ I agree with thunderaquadragon. I think a bonus set only makes sense here. I love this game and would like to play through it again, but I'm completely uninterested just from what others have said about the RNG attempts. Also what RestlessTome said, the game gets a lot of crap as it is so this set isn't doing it any favors for someone interested in playing for the first time.
bongchoof 18 Aug 2022 18:12
Ya'll, the Triple Triad achievements are great. What the heck? The game is straightforward! This isn't Final Fantasy IX. Why move them to a bonus set? Getting all the cards is something I've done before and it really wasn't that painful. In fact, it was probably my favorite part of that run. The worst ones are definitely Card Shark 7 and 8. Spreading rules is a pain in the ass and having to beat an opponent with all the rules except open is a bit of a crapshoot. Without open, the computer cheats but I suppose they wanted the hardest card game possible. So, I don't hate it in theory. Just....messing with the rules is so annoying.
AngeloLeonhart 18 Aug 2022 18:27
The Triple Triad achievements are fine to stay on this set in my opinion, the frustration is spreading / abolishing rules but that is present on every single version of this game, luckly we can manipulate RNG for some stuff. Now, the NJNL achievements should be moved to a bonus set.
andersondias 21 Aug 2022 16:19
the achievements of not leveling up are acceptable, but the ones of not being able to use the junctions were just horrible. For those looking to play the game and have some challenge with a matter of achievements, play the steam version that is much more balanced and fun. or simply just enjoy the game and ignore the achievements, because this no junction is extremely annoying.
ChronoGear 21 Aug 2022 16:48
I wonder how many people actually tried the no junctioning thing and how many just looked at it and decided it's a terrible, annoying challenge. Yeah, it's RNG heavy especially on some fights but I feel like people whine about it WAY too much. You can play the set and ignore that challenge entirely. Sorry that you want an easy badge.
andersondias 21 Aug 2022 17:20
what's the point of playing something that doesn't depend on your skill, but on luck? As I said, the achievements on steam where you do not evolve a level but you can use junction are much more fun and depend on a good strategy and knowledge of the game. Here you are bound to depend on luck. You get stuck in this tedious cycle of bad RnG, that doesn't depend on your skill.
AngeloLeonhart 21 Aug 2022 17:43
I actually tried the no Junction achievements, I got to BGH251F2 on Disc 2 (Rage Against the Machine) and only after some 50 tries with a very specific setup I beated him, only to find out that you can't even open the Junction menu at all during your gameplay, so no dice, achevement didn't triggered for me.
thunderaquadragon 21 Aug 2022 18:09
^ 100% what andersondias said.
Where is the fun in having to reset minimum 50 times (if you’re lucky with good rng) for each section?
These kind of achievements are fine on their own, but I think they belong in a bonus set.
It’s not really accessible for casual players or people who like the game already.
What would change in creating a bonus set for this game? They would still be there and people could choose the type of challenge they want to try
WCopeland 30 Sep 2022 16:44
Very unfortunate to see No Level / No Junction included in the core set for this game. A luck-based grindfest that will no doubt detract from the experience for most players. A revision which moves these achievements to a Bonus set would be appropriate.
taterz 18 Oct 2022 00:31
just a heads up for anyone looking to go for the card stuff: you need to have it in your card set as a 1 or higher. refining them will screw you out of having the achievement. i guess whoever made it felt a 0 is the same as not having it, or couldn't figure out a way to flag it as soon as it lands in your card inventory.
bjoehanna 21 Oct 2022 23:10
there should be a rule that low level runs in RPGs are absolutely for bonus sets only. and this is even worse ^^; there is so much other stuff to do in this game that is actually fun :(

Thank you for your time you put into this set though!
BiohazzardCR 24 Oct 2022 00:31
In the words of Regina George, "Boo." This entire set is a challenge set. Achievements are supposed to be fun and creative. Try making achievements that are boss specific that REQUIRE the use of particular skills in order to add difficulty, instead of taking away core mechanics like we're trying to do a challenge run. Force us to use one character to heal the boss every turn, or force us to inflict them with buffs at all times. But soft resetting the game 1000+ times is fun too I guess.
