First time playing the series so I started on softcore just for fun, but ended up resetting so I can master the set on hardcore; says a lot about the game & the set imo! Thanks to televandalist for working on this!

@Weezl I got that way too, with just 10 star rank and 90 min remaining.

My advice (I'm gonna go for it again soon):

Watch a couple of 10 star runs on YouTube.

If you complete the game far above the amount of items needed cut some out for time.

Pause the emulator (not the game as the clock carries on ticking) to keep a tally of melee vs shooting kills as very important.

Only use the shotgun on the first boss, it lowers your score on most enemies.

Save before the first boss due to one hit KO and either at the start of nowhere or before the last boss.

It's a really hard achievement - most I got was 8.6 so far.

Weezl, You just need to focus to get right amount of items, combined with killed enemies by melee attacks and guns. Rich presence is your best friend here, as suggested by guy, and that shotgun tip is also true, in the sewers try to shot everything with rifle and the area before that. That way you can up your stats with rifle. The rest is fairly easy. Watching some speedrun could also help you. After few tries it will become second nature to you. All the best

If you tell us exactly which is the area of problem we can help further, but one major tip i found useful for consistency and efficiency was to make only melee kills until you get the rifle or close to it.

So dogs, beetles, school kids and nurses are all good to use for farming melee early on, you shoot those on the way with your pistol and finish them off with melee. Ideally you would already kill around 100 with melee by the time you get the rifle, for sure try to have 100 melee kills at least after the first sewer traversal, where there are other easy to knock off beetles.

Once you have the rifle, use it to 2-shot basically every annoying ones on the way, like air screamers, rompers and the hanged scratchers. Avoid the air screamers with pistol early on as they are often less worthy for the amount of hits they require.

If i remember the final boss needs around 21 or 24 shots of the rifle to go down, but if you don't have enough rifle ammo there, do not worry at all, this is a very great boss to use shotgun on just like the splithead one, you won't waste as much accuracy there if you just stay below him and he will melt fast.

The biggest time save in the run is avoiding the market where you get the channelling stone, provided you get along well without those health pickups it is a major time save if you struggle with time.

As for the saves, i would honestly recommend the first save to be before floatstinger boss fight if you manage splithead well and the second save at the start of the alternate hospital before the final boss.

I really hope you will manage the challenge as it is very rewarding once accomplished.

Don't get me wrong. I still have mixed feelings about the game. I am happy I went the distance with it as a huge fan of the series, but the amount of jank is too much. The game is just not acceptable these days as a piece of software to run on a physical machine. Simple as. I had to play with 150% overclock just to have a somewhat "consistent" framerate throughout. My undying love for Team Silent pushed me forward, but I had to re-think my approach. Playing hard right off the bat without bullet adjust and extra weapons made me feel uncomfortable, to say the least. No wonder the game doesn't keep track of the damage taken by the player. Tank Controls is where I feel at home, but this game made me look like an amateur. Mind you, by the time I tackled the set I had already mastered SH0, SH2 (I'm looking at you, Boat cheevo) and SH3.
