I want to finish this before starting the Xenosaga trilogy (played the first as a kid but never Xenogears).

I decided to just play it and ignore the achievements I don't want to do (specifically not being able to upgrade your gear the whole game, which imo just takes a lot of fun out of any game). And that's all the excuse I need to ignore any dumb mini games.

Did the achievements change? I'm reading them and they all sound like pretty normal things, I don't see why so many people are stressing over these... You can just do a normal playthrough and then play again for the challenge achievements. Is there any rule that everything has to be possible on a first playthrough without previous game knowledge? The achievements don't force you to not enjoy the game.

No they're definitely still there. Sort by unlock rate. There's a reason there's so many of them that less than 2% of people have completed, they're definitely not normal playthrough type of achievements.

Listen, it's been a year and a half... and I cannot for the life of me get the 48 jumps in Babel. I swear I've done it a few times but I either miscounted or it just didn't pop. Haven't done it successfully while recording since then. I will literally pay someone to unlock this achievement for me, it's become an unhealthy obsession that literally ruins days for me, and I don't want the stress. Idk if this is outside the lines of the User's code of conduct, but PLEASE someone save me from this stupid achievement

Did you check out Plabu's excellent video guide on how to get it?
I recommend you try it with save states and record it so we can see what's wrong.

Had a hankering for some Xenogears and figured I'd check the achievements. The good thing for me is I don't have to worry about them because there's no way I'm getting more than a few of these. I'm with the commentors, the set is absolutely terrible. Needs way less unfair/RNG/chaos difficulty achievements and way more story progression ones. Oh well. Just means I'll play 2.0 instead.

Even as someone who has played Xenogears before, these Achievements are just super rough from what I‘ve seen and read.
Really needs a rework! Especially since it‘s such a linear Game for RPG standards

Haven‘t even gotten to the Gear Fights and I can already say that this should be a Subset. These Battles, even on casual Playtroughs, are easily the toughest parts of the Game. So being forced to fight them with no equipment, some of the Bosses almost demanding certain equipment, is just asking too much

Just to clarify, this isn't a "no equipment challenge" but a no gear upgrade challenge. You can use any equipment you wish against the bosses, as long as you do not upgrade the gear.
I'm writing a guide for this achievement set that should help whoever wants to play it. It should be ready by the end of the month

I also agree to other people comments, this set is needs a rework.

For me, cheevos like The Tale of a Cruel World makes no sense, since you are asking the players to play without a resource that the game offers to you. And it adds no chalange, just slows the flow of the game, because we have to farm levels to be able to defeat the boss without the upgrades.

Mostly, for those no upgrade achievements, your main damage is ether. So, you need to level up and get ether atk. There's also a guide for beating the game with no upgrade to follow out there. But for RA set I'm not sure and also my question as well whether it's needed or not because by reading this set, you only need to go no upgrade until shevat generator's battles. Can anyone confirm about this?

The achievement that i think that is must to rework is Secret Agent Man where we have to change loading speed of the game to achieve it. Is it allowed to have such this requirement?

Going to agree with the other comments here… this set needs a rework. Way too many of these feel like subset style challenges or something. Obviously it shouldn’t be made entirely too easy either but so much of this is incredibly awkward. I’m playing through now and I’ve already written off the majority of the set. Will just be focusing on the story. Way too many weird little timed challenges
