Mastered! This is probably my favorite Mario Party title of all time--not that it's the best considering how brutal it is relatively speaking--and completing this set was less of a chore than I anticipated, which is a positive thing! My only gripe is the grinding for Coins and Stars but mostly the former, however I would recommend using the Gameball machine at the Mushroom Shop to mitigate it even if only a little bit! Obviously stick-spinning is garbage but otherwise it was a treat to go through and 100%!

well there is a trick to grinding coins in the first game. Simply put, start a 50 turn game. Have the computer play by itself. On the last turn, change all four players into human players. You'll get all the coins from everyone.

Mastered. Glad I got this over with this, this is easily my least favorite of all the 10 Hudson soft mario parties. I would rather play Mario Party Advance over this one. Still, a series had to start somewhere.

Brutal in the wrong way of the word, not really challenging more like the A.I wants you dead and R.N.G is a bit rigged. Still good to learn chance time though.

Mastered! Naturally the two boards I dislike the most (Rainbow Castle and Magma Mountain) ended up taking the longest for me to S rank. Thankfully DK and I eventually prevailed. While I certainly respect this game for beginning the series, I definitely feel every single game Hudson made afterwards was better.

Oh how time flies, you play many other Mario Party games and you eventually forget just how unbalanced this game was. Your skills will only take you so far in this one, be prepared to put some time in replaying some stuff due to really bad RNG and AI bullying.

I'd recommend doing the Mini Game Island first. You play through all the mini game-specific achievements early. Each mini game achievement has a specific strat you may need to get a bit comfortable with, but very doable. It didn't take me long at all, and I expected it to be a lot worse than it was. I'll leave individual comments per achievements on their pages as mini guides.

As for the boards, good luck. You will get absolutely bullied by the AI. Expect to have your Stars stolen, last minute Chance Time steals, the AI WILL target you and mostly only you. If you're not super proficient at the game, here's my tip: don't start with the S-Ranks. Play the boards on Easy CPU difficulties, unlock Magma Mountain and Eternal Star, and finish the game first. When you beat Eternal Star, you can buy the No Boo item. Equip that, and the AI can no longer steal coins and stars from you at every turn. Now play the boards for S-Rank, and it's way more up to your skill instead of getting ganged up on.

For collecting enough coins, don't feel guilty: go to the Pot o' Skills, set all 4 players to Hard CPU (50 coins each handicap), play 30 turns, fast forward the emulator. Make sure on the final turn, you set all 4 players to player characters and you will reap all coins. It's even worth it to use the Casino Box. Repeat. You need over 16K coins to buy everything, don't feel guilty using this method.

Finally, general tip: get yourself some gloves for the palm destroyer games. You can also do what I did, get a thick microfiber cloth and just use it between your hand and the stick. Even with better joysticks today, these games still hurt. I spent the first 2 days with a really sore palm tendon.

Is there some trick to the circle joystick games? I remember i can do it on n64 but with emulation on a steam deck it seems impossible.

The fact that every board has a boo that you can just casually walk up and steal a star or coins from someone for free is absolutely rage inducing and such a broken game mechanic, so glad the later party titles changed it to where the boo's aren't as prominent, I can handle chance time just fine sometimes but I keep fucking up my achievement runs all because of the damn boo's

I think the big advice here is getting the no boo item. It just kills some rng and makes these S-Rank cheevos more manageable. Without it its a big lottery even if you play very good.
