I mean, I looked at the PS4 trophies while making the set but the secrets you speak of, like maybe Sebulba's weapon aren't worth including in my opinion. What, you press the button to make the fire at the start of the race (which burns racers on the grid) and you get an achievement for that? An achievement for taunting? Press one button. If there are achievements you'd like see, I'm happy to hear suggestions but they do need to require a modicum of skill. Not just press a button.

Those are the main ones I had in mind. I know they're really simple, but I see cheevos like that as a way to highlight lesser known features and secrets for newer players or just fan-service for the old players. Like in DK64 when you get a cheevo for listening to the DK Rap. I hadn't considered the correlation between unlocking pods and cheevos. That makes perfect sense. Pretty challenging set. You definitely nailed that.

All good. Sorry if I sounded harsh before; it's a matter of different opinions. I get wanting to highlight features, however if it requires very, very little effort from the player, it's hard to see that as an achievement. Maybe there is an argument for their inclusion as 0 pointers, but I'm not sure. Personally, I don't think the DK Rap should have an achievement either. lol. You could boot up the game and walk away. Anyway, congratulations on the master, I'm glad that you enjoyed it. It's quite a tough list. I'll probably go back over it and increase some of the points.

I think you've both got a point. I like that DK Rap achievement, it's just for fun and I don't think all achievements should just be about challenge and progress. But it does make sense for most of them to be. The set for Myst uses achievements to take notes for the player. The official Psychonauts chievos have ones for things like witnessing all dialogue which helps the player encounter loads of jokes they'd likely miss. I think as long as you're clever or at least don't go overboard, some fun/silly/guiding achievements can be a welcome diversion.

I do appreciate a good challenge but im okay with some "freebies" too. At first I was a little surprised at it only being worth 290 points, but its really not a super long game, and not all of its super hard either. Nicely balanced.

Dumb Car Nerd Facts™ - Two of the tracks in this game mimic real life circuits over in California. Dug Derby takes the layout of Laguna Seca, and the Malastare 100 is Sonoma Raceway (Specifically the layout they run for Nascar)

Why isn't "I built a racer..." listed as missable? There's no way to gain money after completing the races, and if you don't swap over to winner takes all, you're unable to purchase all upgrades. I guess i'll get around to doing a second playthrough eventually just to nab that achievement since I didn't realize I'd need to prepare for it.

Mastered! This was one of the first games I ever played growing up, still find it super difficult at times. Abyss sucks, but going through the time trials was a fun diversion from how I normally play the game! Thanks for the set!

Mastered! Thanks for the set! Some tracks really gave me a headache and took many tries (curse you, Abyss!). I had to realize that damaged parts from Tournament mode also count for Time Attack mode. Would be awesome to see the Dreamcast version with achievements at some point as well.

Abyss is super difficult. protip to anyone attempting it; to get first place you need to stay on the top track in the first section for all 3 laps. Dont be afraid to break fully and crawl around those corners.
