I probably won't master this due to the technical issues of the emulator. Even with the recommended settings the camera red dot thing is way too sensitive which results in huge problems when trying to capture Pokemon Signs and certain "secret Pokemon" like Starmie or Dugtrio. The set itself is fine I guess.

I haven’t touched real hardware since I was a kid, so serious question: was the sensitivity really better there? The Pokemon you named didn’t give me trouble, but the Ditto 4000 was nightmarish for me and I still have several achievements left untried.

Mastered! I do think that original Hardware did work way better for this game, the technical issues with the emulator make this set harder than it should be. there are probably better options than RetroArch out there for Snap but they don't support RetroAchievements.

I went to play this since this is my childhood too and wanted to add it to my profile mastered by dang. I went in game and I can't move the camera. Inputs work on the menu so I'm totally confused. Is there a setting in pj64 that I need checked? I'm using the achievements version of project64 due to how long it's been around. Retroarch has one of the most complicated UI's I've ever dealt with. And I've worked with Maya 2010 up to 2020. 😂

I want to add I've already mastered Diddy Kong racing on here. So it's not my controller. I'm using a GameCube adapter (no way ur beating dev time trials with a keyboard lol)

@RobzMercer: it’s because Pokémon Snap, specifically, requires more accurate emulation than normal.

I’ve never used Project64, but the advice people gave several years ago is “go to Options > Configure Graphics Plugin > Advanced > and check Copy Framebuffer to RDRAM.” No idea if this works on the current version.

Pokémon Snap requires the above step due to how the in-game camera senses that a Pokemon is in the frame. The weird issues where the camera can’t be controlled/won’t detect Pokemon when the dot passes over them/doesn’t recognize taken pictures as containing Pokemon are all caused by this detection issue.

@RobzMercer: I tried to figure it out for you but wasn't able to get it to work myself.
The joystick not moving it actually probably a result of you not getting past the tutorial. The camera is locked until you have taken pictures of the first 3 Pidgeys, and a lot of configurations cause those tutorial pictures to never trigger.

Messing around with different Framebuffer settings and Plugins I was able to get past the tutorial, but are not able to submit any of the pictures I take to Prof. Oak.

Meanwhile I just Mastered this set on RetroArch with zero bugs, altho my memory is bad, so I can't tell you what kind of setup I had to go through with that in the past. But here are some of my settings that may or may not be relevant..

Core: mupen64plus_next_libretro.dll
RDP Plugin: ParaLLEI-RDP
- Dither SSA frambuffer effects: ON
CPU Core: Dynarec
RSP Plugin: CXD4

I played this using Angrylion.

The only difficult achievement for me was the Perfect Mew, which i got second try this time, but took me hours on an older account.

This was a great casual set for a very unique game, shout to the devs.

Tried to play this through Retroarch, but when I finish a stage I'm unable to select any photos to submit. Does anyone have the solution to this?

It’s *probably* that the game thinks your photos don’t have any Pokemon in them (!) because it requires accurate emulation of the N64’s graphical pipeline. terarded posted a while back:
“ If you're having trouble selecting photos for Oak after the tutorial here's how to fix it:

1. Go to the quick menu for the game and press core options (Mupen64Plus-Next core)
2. Change RDP Plugin to Angrylion
3. Change RSP Plugin to CXD4
4. Completely close retroarch and restart.”

When you say ‘configure the controls’, do you mean the controls are glitching out when you go onto the course? That might be the same accurate-emulation issue. Try the instructions posted above and see if that helps.

Mastered!!! Lost many a hour to that Mew achievement but I coulda cried when I finally saw the pose at 100, such a rewarding set!
