Turns out it was a problem with the C-button mapping. I had been mapping C Buttons Y-, C Buttons Y+, etc to my keys since that's all that was showing up. Apparently, the C button setting I needed required an entire emulator restart after selecting "Independent C-button Controls". Everything worked individually otherwise, but I guess the emulator wasn't allowing them all to work at the same time.

I'm in the ghost castle, but the glide 64 the game is always crashing :( with jabo I've got 3 fps. Dunno what to do.

Because none of the bosses would be more challenging by using him :P I couldn't come up with any challenge outside bosses either, that would make sense with Sasuke.

I really want to play this set because I loved Goemon as a kid, but at the same time intimidated by the amount of missables there are and there doesn't seem to be a guide on where and when you have your chance to get them lol.

It looks worse than it is :) There is a point late in the game which is a point of no return, but the game will tell you.

First: Save before boss fights, because those are missable since you can't beat them several times.

Second: Any challenge like the pool table or dango mini-game, well when you progress past them you can't redo them. But it's fairly obvious where they are, and you can save before trying them.

Third: The cat dolls. None is missable until the point of no return towards the end. However, the achievement "Ganbare!" requires you to not pick up any cat dolls so I have a tip for it:

Either play the game twice. One time getting everything, getting used to the game and taking all the achievements you can.
Then play it one time while avoid the cat dolls (less life, more difficult) and clean up the achievements you might have missed.

OR, play it while avoiding every cat doll up to the point of no return, and save before it. Then make a copy of the save and beat the game on this low life run. THEN use the copied save before the point of no return - go back and grab every cat doll, and beat the game with all cat dolls. (that way you don't have to play twice).

The final missable one is the secret salesman, but the description tells you how to deal with him (buy everything at once)

As long as the game isn't that long then I'm fine with playing it twice :). I'm a bit biased against these types of cheevs because I played an RPG that required me to play the game twice, like why would you do this by punishing a first-timer for exploring the game and getting stronger?

I thought having to play through it twice was going to be a chore, but it's actually not too bad, because the game is relatively short, it could even be finished in a single sitting if you felt like it, once you know what you're doing and where you are going.

I personally think that longer games like OOT or Battle Network shouldn't have them because at that point it feels more like padding to increase game time. Good to hear it's short though.

Wait, I have a question about the boss fights. I'm at Oedo Castle heading towards the boss, but the safe point is at the entrance of the dungeon. Does that mean I have to go through the dungeon for 5 or more minutes every time to have to get another attempt at the boss or can I have the ability to save anywhere anytime? Because having to do that sounds fustrating.

yeah i think you do cause i had that issue with the boss on the dragon's back. It's annoying, I know. Also, for the no cat doll, you don't need to go through the whole game twice, just the final dungeon.

Hmm, Then I think I'll pass on this set. Sorry Isaac. If you don't have a quick easy way to get to bosses for a another attempt for a damageless fight, then it can bring down a ton of enjoyment playing the game. I didn't mind doing damageless runs like Wario Land 4 because you can retry very easily.

Sorry, that's just how the game works with its savepoints. But once you get to the boss and go back to the entrance to save, it's pretty quick to go back to the boss room - especially with a fast forward button :P
And Olafur, I am pretty sure there's a save right before the warp to the dragon's back so it's not that big of a time sink :)

But hey, Cassette Cobra. There's one final tip that might make it more enjoyable. Before the boss, save the game (and quit the emulator) and make a backup of the save. Do one attempt and move on. Repeat the process through the game, and then you can go back whenever you want to give the bosses another go after you have beat the game :)

I'm going to play the game and have fun getting achievements. Thanks for the set Issac, and for all the tips you've left here. I prefer sets that require multiple playthroughs because I want excuses to go back and play my favorite games again. No complaints from me. Keep doing what you do.

Wanna say that this was a great set and a lot of fun! Loved playing through this gem of a game again! Still got to do the 5 heart run, but I'm already at the second castle dungeon.
