Clarification and Guide on Standalone Support
May 6, 2025 12:13 PM
Hey all, given that we now have two Standalone games supported, questions that often arise are: What can become a standalone? How is the process handled? And where do we request it? Given that the floodgates are now open, we would like to offer some clarifications that are now extensively described in the docs. To give a short summary of what is described there:
- What are the requirements to work on a standalone (developer status, knowledge of programming language ot modding tools if applicable etc.)
- What do we look for in standalone support (games that have achievements elswhere, MMOs, Fangames, etc.)
- How to request to work on standalone support
This leaves the door pretty open for what is possible, and we definitely want to keep it that way. However, do keep the following in mind: The Admin team of RetroAchievements makes the final decision as to whether we proceed with a proposal.
Hopefully that answers any questions! For more information, check out https://docs.retroachievements.org/general/standalone-support.html

Would be nice to see a ton of games pop up on here for standalone like Factorio or Sonic Robo Blast 2. I'm completely clueless how you'd add support for them but I appreciate everything that went into Terraria for it. Haven't played like Vanilla-ish on that in forever.

@SnowMew SRB2 was literally the first thing that came to mind, I'd love to see a set implemented for that
Would likely have to include checks for any addon WADs and console commands (like godmode or noclip) to disable Hardcore mode, though there might be some checks in-game already for that kinda thing
Could even open the door to including certain addon WADs as subsets (SRB2Kart etc.)
