This set uses both PAL releases of Luigi's Mansion. It has unique content and harder hidden mansion mode, so USA/NTSC is not the same game as Europe/PAL. 60hz patch makes two timed achievements harder:



60HZ increases the speed of the game engine, so the frames count faster, and not in real-time. Saves are 100% compatible between the normal game and the 60hz patch. These achievements are not impossible, but the timings are extremely close.
The concepts and times were set on 50HZ, native to the game.

Progress report for those interested:
Rollout is still on-going, so I will continue to be working on it until console release!

Game has root addresses mapped and patterns are known.
Others were able to find a pointer or two which are vital for seeing Luigi's stats as well as current location.

We've got a set plan pretty much figured out, with viable addresses covering progression, and now going thru extra addresses to find interesting memory addresses for any other extra ideas. We're saying that progression is for most major steps in the game reflecting chapter ends or speedrunner splits.

As for other achievements, we're looking to have all gold frames be an achievement. I'll have to keep testing to see if it's viable to have an 'all-gold' frame run, which is counting the large pearl drops as well as boss frames.
I am not going to include a max money run, I feel this is overkill for getting the highest score possible, isn't as important as getting the highest *rank* possible for the Mansion.

Because this is PAL Luigi's Mansion, we have a higher threshold to hit for Rank A - the highest in GCN Luigi's Mansion.
Has to hit 150 million or more. You are only able to grab this high rank within the Hidden Mansion, the regular mansion doesn't give you enough money. Which is why I think a LOWEST rank might be a fun run (every player HAS to play through the normal mansion once), and it would be relatively quick - going for the progression ghosts and chests, and leaving a 100% run for the hidden mansion where it's possible to get the best rank.


I'm creating sidekick achievements for this goal, including an achievement for finding every speedy ghost (blue treasure ghost), and every gold mouse.

It's a short game, which experienced players can clear the game within a 3 hours session, which does open up some more challenge prospects if they were viable and fun. I'm also putting in a couple of Boo Hunting achievements, I want players to be able to learn how to use the R-Pump Technique which is a super fun strategy and time saver.

I'll also have an achievement for clearing all rooms and unlocking all doors, and watering all plants. That should also help guide players to the highest rank. Going off that watering all plants achievement, I will have a "Get max Gold Bars" achievement, since those are always going to be in the same hidden spots (61 in Normal, 76 in Hidden, either will count for the achievement), which is another achievement for exploring everything and just a little nudge into what a "max money" run would entail.

Really excited for this set! Thank you so much for your hard work on it, Fridge. Can't wait for the GameCube launch!

I'd like to echo what Golbi2654 said about the 60hz Options patch... the game looks and runs so much better after being patched, but I do see that it is currently not supported. Is there any idea if this will be supported in the future? I am more than willing to hold off on playing the set if it will be implemented later on. I understand that it may not be so simple, but fingers crossed.

For 60hz mode, rather than patching the game directly, you could try the Gecko code from the Dolphin Wiki that the patch is actually based on. (The code is under "Enhancements".)

Unfortunately, it looks like gecko codes are disabled in hardcore mode, so you can't use the 're-enable 60hz' code in hardcore.

Though considering it's labeled 'cheat system' in Dolphin, it might not be available for softcore either. Someone who plays in softcore can confirm or deny, though.

Yeah, since leaderboards are currently disabled for GameCube, I will do some more testing to make sure timing is correct and then I will add 60hz patch support if I can confirm it doesn't interfere with achievements.

Hi,
I noticed a discrepancy between the speedrun timer and the emulator speed yesterday when testing out the 60 Hz patch.
I couldn't find a way to file tickets / report bugs on leaderboards directly (only on achievements), so I created a bug report in the forum here: https://retroachievements.org/viewtopic.php?t=27336&c=230660#230660
While this primarily affects times logged into the leaderboard, it also makes some time-based achievements significantly easier depending on the ROM that's used.

Just wanted to let y'all know because I'm not sure if anyone routinely checks that part of the site.

It definitely affects the Mario is Missing achievement. I didn't realize how many seconds I was losing because it was out of sync.

I didn't have any other issues with the patch but I wasn't going for speedrun times
