Hello, as for the second question - you need to use Swanstation core, then open Quick menu > core settings> console settings and set "CD-ROM read speedup" to x8 (x16 speed) and "CD-ROM seek speedup" to x4 (x8 speed). As for the first, its random, so just reset until you get first turn. But i think, you can get hit from spider once (if you change read speed up). Also, you need left alive only Squall after Evolret battle. Its a critical for time saving. If you used other core, you can change memory card file extension. But do a backup copy first

I did it just now, thanks to everyones who helped me : )
If you don't have Flare and only tornado in junction attack, you need the " CD-ROM read speed " set up, and Mad rush as well. With this, i did it with 25:20 at the end.

    Gratz. Realy annoying cheevo

The sad world I live in for playing this in Bizhawk because RetroArch won't allow me to log in to RetroAchievements :D Having multiple people check in Bizhawk for hardware psx timing, this is impossible to do on Playstation 1 normally. As has been mentioned above, you have to use some kind of disc read speedup, which appears to only be available in Retroarch's Swanstation and a couple other cores. After converting my save files to srm from SaveRAM, I did this with 8x read speed in Retroarch, with killing X-ATM at the top of the pub screen, and ending with a time of 25:03. I had about 4 seconds of time loss throughout, but it's pretty crazy that I was already 16-17 seconds faster touching the screen transition to the Bridge scene. Was a fun puzzle to figure out for this specific setup, though! Was able to save after the mission, re-convert the saves, load back up in Bizhawk, and progress to get the achievement.

Just got this. Using Duckstation, lvl 30 Squall, Tornado on Str, Mad Rush during second fight. Increasing the "CD-ROM read speedup" to x8 (x16 speed) and "CD-ROM seek speedup" to x4 (x8 speed) as suggested by rlxldk was unfortunately crashing my game. I was able to use 2x speed on both though which this achievement would be impossible without doing. I was able to save nearly an entire minute with the 2x read/seak speedup. Finished at about 25:20 where prior, I was lucky to get above 24:00. Also had extremely lucky rng with X-ATM092 as he wasn't able to attack me.

This achievement should probably be moved to the bonus set as I don't see how it's possible without changing emulator settings. Would love to see this done on the original console.
    Nesouk 31 Aug 2024 06:19
It's possible but on console you can't use Mad Rush as it lose to much time, need to farm 100 Flare by farming Red Dragon card to get more strength than with the 100 Tornado, and then you need basically a perfect RNG (being able to act with Squall before X-ATM can act, have a good starting ATB...etc...).
    Nesouk 31 Aug 2024 07:38
100 Flare makes up for the lack of Berserk from Mad Rush (which you mustn't use as it waste time), and depleting all of his HP while he is down makes him stand up faster.
Of course if you are already at a high LV enough, the Str gain from LV cuts the need for Flare.
    Mageryan 3 Sep 2024 20:34
'Speed up loading' is still taking 5 seconds off in scene transitions even if they are somewhat instantaneous. Whole thing sounds like bullshit.
    Dollet 3 Sep 2024 21:16
I followed this video with the speed settings I mentioned. https://youtu.be/iOMUfKLd3i4?feature=shared

Geez, finally and barely got this: My final time was 25:01 lol.
Ty a lot for your help @rlxldk and everyone!

I watched some videos for this max exam score, but they were playing the steam version so, stuff such as transition of screen was way faster and it's really annoying to have to modify the cd rom on the emulator to be able to keep up.
Just like you said, I think this cheevo is for a subset instead of a core one.

However, if the points for this were at least 50, that would be a different story. I mean, this achievement requires grinding, speedrunning, and extreme GOOD LUCK with RNG.

All in all, it was an amazing challenge because I had no clue getting 600 points was even possible!
    Kaneh 27 Dec 2024 17:54
Thinking of playing FF8 again with cheevos, looking at the set I see low completion/mastery, and I assume having this horrible cheevo in the early stages of the game is to blame? Makes me also not want to run it.
    Kaneh 27 Dec 2024 17:56
There should be a way to vote on cheevos, and a way to vote for removal of low rated cheevos.

At first I got 80 pts on deduction. No idea why. But turns out talking to Zell at the Town Square fountain, counts as deduction. Something the guide I been following does not mention, as the guide says to talk to Zell. Thankfully I backed up a save file before that point and went through it again.

It is possible to do this on a no level run as well. Tedious to kill 75 enemies as you must constantly save and reload to only get monsters as to card them, since soldiers cannot be carded and you cannot run from battles or else suffer deduction.

With learning Card fighting only Buel back in Fire Cavern, after Ifrit of course. 10 battles with Squall dead and 10 with Quistis dead and all 3 GFs only on 1 character to divide the EXP. Maybe a bit extreme but I assume no level is still possible. To just KO Squall, Quistis and unequip those GFs for the unavoidable EXP moments.

Anyway seems best to kill the boss on the screen after saving the dog and after it crushes the car. Both times I managed to finish with about 15 seconds left and got no encounters after. As well as the speeds on emulator mentioned above. x8 read and least x2 seek speed.

I'm sorry but if I have to change my emulation settings to get the achievement, it doesn't belong in the set. This is dumb.
    ImaDoki 18 Feb 2025 19:19
I got the achievement without changing my emulation speed.

There are some tricks that can be used, but the main one is to have Zell and Squall only alive and their damage, added, should hit 6k+, while they individually hit enought to instantly make XATM start regenerating.

This way it counts as 2 regeneration rotation (1 on the hit that drops him, 2 for the one that makes him get up). You can kill it in 6 hits like this.

Also, in the first rotation, drop him to Regen and WAIT both attack bar to fill before doing the second attack. This way you can get him up and drop him without giving him space to attack between your hits.

I made a video on how to get this achievement with some tricks and tips, if you want more details and see it in action.

Guys... Changing emulation speed is reproducing the game in a different way. If your hardware was too slow to run the game at a constant rate, and you couldn't get an achievement, it's not a bad achievement.

Getting 600 IS part of the base game, the problem that emulators can't do this natively is more a sign the emulators need more work to accurately reproduce the game. Changing an emulator setting is NOT the sign of a bad achievement.

trying to wrap my head around the conditions for this achievement as someone who knows nothing about this game is certainly a process, lol, probably a terrible idea to try doing this on a first playthrough but i don't really want to have to go back for this either
    maximumxp 2 May 2025 00:56
It is a terrible concept for first timers, yeah, I would recommend doing Ifrit's cave in 10 minutes and finishing him, then leave the emulator running for 10 minutes while on the GF naming screen to make sure the time will deplete, thus granting you maximum points for that classification in the exam, and then creating a save in a different slot and leave it there, then just finish the game normally to have an idea how everything works.
    bryandelmond 3 May 2025 21:52
Okay so... one thing no one seems to mention at all: For the attack score, you can't use summons or GF, because they don't count as kills. I am so freaking mad, I got 500 points and 0 on attack.
