If you don't get a checkpoint box, you can die and start again without exit the level if you die, make sure you don't get the checkpoint boxes to start at the beginning of the level

In case someone cannot complete any level in time or they don't want to see the videos in Youtube here is a tip. In Crash 2 when you press circle button you can get a slide or a little speed boost (if you play in bear level). When slide ends he needs time to stand up and complete it again stoping you. But if you jump (X button) in the second before Crash stopped you can jump higher and complete more of a path than by simply running. And when you land you can do this trick again. An Endless Loop of Jumps and Slides. This is what helps me to complete the levels in time. And If you have some problems with this trick try to practice it and find a rhytme before playing the level for time trial.
