    In the very unlikely case of somebody not being able to take this shortcut the issue is likely that you have a "backpack always on" cheat applied.
    A similar issue occurs with Sherry in Chief Irons office for the same reason.
    To fix it, disable the cheat, exit, and re-enter the clocktower.
    You'll be prompted to pick up the Knight Plug again (now there are two of them!) but you'll now be able to go down the chute.
    Figuring this out sure made the Achievement title appropriate :P
