It will only Works IF you somehow get the better stick from thomas bazar and equip Flint with it. It is not aways been sold there thought

If you keep a save before entering the bazar you can reset the emulator and reload the save to make new items appear until you get it.

But if by mistake you saved after you first enter the bazar, completing some events like visiting the graveyard make new items appear in bazzar. Save after any event and follow the above tactic.

You can reset the selection if you visit ******'s grave and then come back.

As mentioned above, I did it by visiting the grave, saving at the frog at the top of the village and then checking Thomas' store. If the stick wasn't there, you reset.
Still, even at 3x speed it still took me an hour to get this :(
