For me, it popped when I picked up DK's Blueprint (the first limited collectible after said coin that wasn't a normal banana).

Doesn't seem to work if you get this last for finding every coin in the game it just gets overwritten by the Nickel and Dime one. Probably best to do it when you first hit Fungi Forest.

For context, this random coin was found 20 years later when a speedrunner was reading through the code and invalidated all 100% speedruns that day.

nah, 101% doesn't need to collect every coin, it just needs your save to display "101%" on file select. There is however the "all collectables" subcategory (pain) that had to be rerouted for the extra rainbow coin.
