The 1UP in Bomb Man's stage can be farmed infinitely by walking all the way to the right in the small room it's in, then going as far left as you can without dropping down to the hallway below.

I think the only good place to do this is in Bomb Man's stage, as Jazerus says, thanks Jazerus, it really helped that tip, it helped me to jump when I was going to the left, so the 1-up is reset

Just ended up going through Gutsman Stage a few times, as I was not able to replicate the strat mentioned here. Would be great if someone could record a video of it.

So yeah the trick works with these instructions I linked. The only bit of advice I would add is about the jump on the left to make the life respawn. Rather than just winging it, I would recommend this slow but reliable setup:

Slowly approach the edge and line up mega man's right heel outline (the black line around mega man) with the edge's. Then tap left to move exactly 5 pixels. This is as far as you will be able to stand on the edge. Now simply jump+left, then quickly return right to land back to safety.
