    Is this only obtainable on the first attempt against Boshi? ...I just went back and tried to beat him and all 4 of the yoshi's were racing and I won, but it did not pop.

    If you're using Retroarch, setup "Run-ahead to reduce latency". That solved my issue. If you have any lag and sound issues after that, make sure that your cores are up to date. This completely eliminated input lag for me.

    My advice for this is use a keyboard, tried multiple times with my controller and got it the first time using the keyboard.
