This achievement unlocked for me before the Doomsday zone started. I did finish the previous level with more than 100 rings though.

Can you use the level selector to do this achievement???
Or do you have to beat the full game each time???

Ok, I am trying not to whine here but this cheevo could allow use of level select since its a challenge limited to one level, not the entire gameplay.

This cheevo is not so bad as long as you do it all at once with all the other Sonic accesible cheevos.
The first phase is when you want to collect 100 rings, just stay left so you can see everything coming and try pausing as well to give you a bit of extra time to see the missles and rocks. If you get miss, let Sonic run out of rings and try again.
You can get a free continue in the slot machine bonus round by collecting the rings around the stage if you enter with 50 or more rings so it gives you a lot of times to retry when you accumuate enough continues.

I agree though, level select should deffo be allowed for all specific level cheevos especially as this one requires a full Sonic playthrough with all emeralds.

Since the second part has infinite rings, it's also possible to do it there, although takes some time, gets easier once you memorize the looping pattern. That's how I did it anyway.
