To those who don't play VS. mode usually: Pick a light character and go against a Lvl9 CPU. Turn handicap on and put yourself on 1. Now just turn on turbo on pause and fast forward until unlocked!

This was such an annoying grind. From what I can tell you have to play at least 40 VS matches. Like the other person mentioned. The Easiest and quickest way to get this is by setting the CPU to level 9. Put your characters handicap on 1. Do stock matches with only 1 life. Fast forward and let the cpu knock you off the stage. Be aware that the CPU has to hit you before you can jump off the stage or else it won't count towards the overall vs matches

I found a better way.
Put damage in 200%, and your cpu in level 1 (light character), DK stage, and now use Mario's grab and that's it.
Every match took me around per 22-23 seconds, so, you can unlock it around 37.5 minutes or more.

easiest to do with mario vs ai level 1 cpu kirby on yoshi island

kirby will always spawn at top of stage so with 200% damage u can double jump into up B for a fast 1% damage ko each game takes maybe 5 seconds at most

Set the controller to first and second player, then just run off the edge. One player will always hit the bottom first. Fast fall to hit the ground faster.

The requirements for unlocking this are simply:
Play 100 vs. games. You don't have to win any, you just need to play that many.

Set your game to 1 stock, pick a level that's not Brinstar and FF your emulator and spam start until the game starts and left/right to SD and repeat 100x. You'll finish this in under 5 minutes.
