For anyone having trouble with this, there's a I guess you could call it bug in his code, if you don't eat anything for about 10-15 seconds his speed picks up very slowly, it works every time for the first two rounds, 3rd one can be hit or miss on it working, makes it so much easier.

I did all 3 rounds without the turbo trainers, it didn't trigger. am i missing something?
I haven't unlocked the turbo trainers yet. So that could be the problem

Did the first one with just the red ones.

Then another where you had to get red and yellow ones?

The first challenge has 3 rounds. Just red, then red while avoiding yellow, then eat only whatever is shown on screen. If you lose any round, Mr. Vile bites you to take away some of your health. If you win all three rounds, you win a Jiggy.
After you win the Jiggy, Mr Vile challenges you to the second challenge, which has higher stakes. If you lose, he bites you to take away a life. If you win, you get 3 extra lives. The second challenge, for extra lives, is what must be won without the Turbo Trainers to get this achievement.

A good bit of advice for anyone going for this would be try not to stick to the back of the room too much and to try cut Mr Vile off as much as you can is easily the best way to stay ahead, he's pretty predictable with where he wants to go

Got it, it was awful achievement they made mr. Ville tougher challenge was horrible.

In addition to the rubber banding tips that others have mentioned, on round 3 of the challenge, note that the color you need to eat switches every 10 seconds, including from second 1 to 0. Planning around the switch and waiting by a group right before the color change is a good way to quickly go from behind to ahead while maintaining the momentum before Mr. Vile's rubber banding picks back up.

Do yourselves a favor, use save states. I used it and got the achievement. It didn't waste too much of my time, I only lost one round and won the rest but it's better to be safe. After you win a round make sure to make another save state for the next.

in hardcore you cant do savestates ;-)
